More annals of my fascinating life
Oct. 23rd, 2004 09:32 amThough I'd set my alarm for a little before 9, I awoke with a start at exactly the moment it would have gone off had this been a weekday. I can't quite figure out why, because the sky was still dark and everything was dead silent. I was so awake that it took me a little while to get back to sleep. So now it's 9:19, I'm up and breakfasted and I have lots to do today before 6 o'clock, such as:
- shower and get dressed
- wash dishes and clean up kitchen to clear up sewing space
- tidy up rest of a partment and vacuum
- go to the laundromat
- start costumes
- cook scalloped patates for the Potato Party this evening (one of my students is hosting)
For my costumes I got a Vogue pattern that asks for 19 buttons down the back. *ahem* Hah! Do I look like I want to make 19 buttonholes? It'll be snap button for me, with real buttons for show on the outside.
Yesterday afternoon I played Cranium (in French, of course) with my students and we laughed so hard. They're not that advanced, so they had to look up quite a few words but ran into trouble with things such as "gaufres aux bleuets" because the dictionary one of them was using gave a weird translation for gaufre and for bleuet said "bachelor's button" because French people are weird and don't know blueberries. The funniest part, though, was during a drawing challenge. A woman and two men were drawing and the woman (of course) knew how to use her dictionary and correctly found "kite" when she looked up "cerf-volant" but the men looked the words up separately and were drawing flying deer. *sweatdrop* I thought he was drawing a reindeer, so I was shouting things like "Santa Claus! Rudolph! Flying reindeer! Christmas!"
