Cherry Blossoms
Feb. 19th, 2002 06:04 pmMaybe my father is right, and shopping has something to do with female genes. Then again, my mother doesn't like shopping. Which begs the question, who did I inherent this strange ability to find great bargains on clothes from? No matter, I got 3 items for the low, low price of 34$! And that includes a pair of oh-so-elegant gray pants, the likes of which I'd been searching for for a while. Ah, life is good.
I also finally went an bought the 2nd book I have to study to get my driver's license and found out how to register for the exam, and all that, so that I will be able to cart myself around. I feel bad having my gentlemen friends drive me home all the time, after all. I am forever in your debt, guys, and someday I'll drive you home, too. :D
I finished Terry Pratchett's "Thief of Time" on the bus today. It was amusing, as I always find Discworld outings to be, and the theme, as per the title, is Time and also the question of how much of human behaviour is dictated by the body before the brain even gets a chance to suggest something. Quite a bit, I'd imagine. Many specific mentions are also made about perfect moments, and their transience or eternity, which is a topic I always like, and Death plays an important role in the proceedings. War, Famine, Pestilence and Ronnie also put in appearances, and Lu-Tze the Sweeper certainly demonstrates the importance of abiding by Rule One. That is, "Never underestimate a smiling old man with a broom."

The comments about cherry blossoms were appropriately twinge-inducing. Am I the only one who sometimes, when sitting around having fun with friends, looks around at their smiling faces and feels a bitter-sweet tightening in her heart at the thought that this is one of those moments that should be cherished because it will be gone too soon?
I think the music is making me think a little too deeply about all of this.
