There's obviously something wrong with me; the only problem I've had with Greek transportation so far is the lack of daily ferries from Iraklio to Santorini. To wit: the trolleys and metro in Athens were easy to use, the ferry to Crete docked *early*, the bus to Knossos are frequent and fast and the bus to Rethymno left and arrived on time and had reclining seats.

Last night, G and I split a 50$ fish (delicious!) and we got the girls drunk. All of which took about 3 hours, and a real pleasure it was to sit at an outdoor table for the evening, eating and drinking and laughing. That's one thing you don't get when you travel solo, unless you happen to be adopted by a gang of Aussies like I was at one point.

When the bus dropped us off in Rethymno, an elderly man pounced on us, offering us rooms. We took him up on his offer, loading our bags into the trunk of his old car (it wouldn't close, so he strapped it shut with bungee cords -- this man is wise in the ways of backpackers!). Driving here is more dangerous than it looks, or maybe that was just because he brakes at the very last possible second. We arrived at the "hotel", which sports a modest sign proclaiming "Rent Rooms", and were pleased with the rooms. G and I have a balcony overlooking the square and the beach and A-L and M-P have a room across the hall with no balcony, all the better to sleep soundly, my dear. For the last two nights the people in the street outside our rooms were particularly noisy.

We've yet to go out and explore, really, because we stumbled upon this internet cafe just after having eaten at Mr. Souvlaki's, the cheapest restaurant meal we've had yet! And since it seems I'm not the only one having trouble with my bank card, we have to find an ATM for A-L so she can be told again they're unable to process her request.

Today is the first cloudy day of our trip, which makes the heat just perfect. It's warm out, not sweltering. It's a shame it's a little too cool for swimming, but we'll have plenty of time for that later. Who knows, maybe a dip tomorrow before we head back to Iraklio?
A-L told me that I forgot to write about the highlight of yesterday evening: M-P ate a fish eye! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

M-P adds: J'ai mange la langue aussi!

*laugh*
