Jun. 11th, 2003 12:18 amWe're still on Paros, waiting for our boat (it leaves at 2).
Monday evening we ate at a little Turkish restaurant and A-L made quite an impression on the owner, announcing that she didn't want to make a real baby because her dog is her baby. There were also some laughs about modern music: as the owner put it, "It's five note, turut-turut, a woman singing just five note, what music is that?! I don't understand."
Yesterday, after much discussion, we took a boat to Antiparos to see the famous cave. Only G and I didn't see the cave, we rented a scooter and explored on our own. We stopped at a little beach and played on water-smoothed marble, the marble this place is famous for (Venus de Milo ring a bell?). We also drove up to the cave, but just to admire the view because the site closed at 2:30.
Well, it turns out I'm a much more aggressive first-time scooter driver than G is: he was content to put-put along at a staid 25 km/h but I, with my deep-seated need for speed, pushed our little vehicle to 40! It's really fun! I had a rockin' cool helmet, silver with a row of little pink stars and SUNNY written across the front. *laugh* I want to rent a scooter again!
For supper we bought gyros (there's some confusion over the distinction between gyros and souvlakis -- here, they seem to be the same thing, but in Santorini they were quite different. I think the Parians are confused) and ate in our apartment. On the way "home" we picked up some retsina and ouzo but after we'd eaten and were starting on our second bottle, we decided we definitely didn't have enough alcohol, so A-L and I went back to the same store to buy more. We kept on drinking, and later (I'm guessing it must have been near midnight?) G and M-P went out for *more* booze.
The results? Well, A-L started pouring water down people's pants at one point and M-P slept through lots of noise that would normally wake her up immediately. G tried to take a scalding hot shower at 3 in the morning and now he can't remember why, and he's sick. We also took pictures... that should be interesting.
We thought we'd save our partying for Mykonos, but now we're not so sure. Depends on how we feel tomorrow night, which will be A-L's last partyable night with us. ^_^
