Well, this is it, our last day in Greece...

Yesterday we visited the Oracle of Delphi. What did she say to me? I'm not telling! *smirks*

This place is so peaceful, up in the mountains, you just want to find a shady spot under a pine tree and sleep. The ruins of the once-mighty religious centre are impressive. As usual, lots of broken columns, statue-less pedestals and paving stones lying around. There's a theatre and at the very top, high on the slopes of Mount Parnassos, there's a stadium, used in the Pythian Games (like the Olympics, they were held every four years). M-P and I ran a victory lap around it; it's really in very good shape for something that old. The other tourists there followed our example and we had fun cheering them at the finish line.

G had a little incident in our hotel bathroom yesterday -- I was taking a nap so I missed all the fun. There's a drain in the bathroom floor and it's connected to the sink and the bathtub, so when you run the water in either one you see it in the drain. He was washing his underwear in the sink, using the detergent I brought and all of a sudden he turned around and saw bubbles spewing out of the floor drain!

M-P is debating whether or not to stay an extra week. I can't because I have to go back to work and now the adrenaline has been cut short. I just want to sleep.

So here's to Greece; to excellent food, beautiful landscapes and interesting ruins; to sun and sea and wind; to helpful people and their relaxed way of life; to "Parakalo", the all-purpose word*; to retsina and the good company I kept.

Efharisto!

* It means "Please", "You're welcome", "Hello" when you answer the phone, "May I help you?" in a store, and no doubt many other meanings I haven't figured out.
