Jan. 13th, 2004 08:47 pmYou know how when a random body part gets frozen, it becomes red and swollen and tingly for a while when it thaws? Well, my left ear has been like that for over two hours. I froze the little bastard good! It also looks even stranger because my left ear doesn't sit as close to my head as the right one and it's much more apparent now than it usually is. Normal-looking, pale ear on the right; funny-looking red swollen one sticking out on the left. Still, I suppose that the fact that the sensation came back pretty quickly and the swelling is gradually fading (especially in the lobe) -- and the fact that it's red and not white -- are good signs. But if a chunk of my ear is missing when you see me next, you'll know why.
Dance classes started this evening. Because I won't be doing one of the jazz dances for the recital, I get to sit and watch the girls try to remember the moves. It's a cool-looking dance, more hip-hop than jazz, but I don't feel up to doing something so random-looking my first year.
That's one of the problems I have with jazz. I'm too used to ballet, where every movement is precise and you always, always know where your feet and your arms and your head are supposed to be. In jazz, it's just sort of, "Okay, pas de bourré, pirouette, pas de bourré" and it doesn't really matter where your feet land, most of the time. I haven't learned to let loose yet, which is why I look so stiff compared to the other girls. Only it's not that I'm stiff, it's just that my body has been conditioned by ten years of ballet and now I'm trying to teach it to move all over again.
I think I'll break out the packet of prepared red curry goop and make a batch, even though G can't make it tonight due to his car deciding it was too cold to function properly. And there are dishes to be washed, unfortunately.
