Finally, I'm getting into gear and starting A-L's dress, the dress that I promised her... three years ago, I think. And the fabric and pattern have been sitting in my closet for that long. *wince* Still, placing the pattern and cutting, all in an evening! Of course, I have no choice because I have to fold the fabric differently for different pieces, but shhh! let's pretend I'm diving headlong into this.

The sewing scissors my mother gave me for Christmas are strange to handle, but what a beautiful sound they make! Swift, smooth and effortless, they're a real joy to use; light-years ahead of my mother's old things that haven't been sharpened in fifteen years, if that. And you know what that means? It means no cramps in my hand! It means straighter cuts, fewer jagged edges and less frustration when cutting at the edge of the cloth. It means that cutting, which was arguably my least favorite part of sewing, is that much easier and now seems a more pleasant task. But I'll have to wait until I finish the dress to be sure.

Also, the scissors have a little safety lock on them. How cool is that?
