Go away! I don't want you in my soda crackers, nor do I want you climbing over my bottles of alcohol and I certainly don't want you in my Cheerios so don't even think about it!
Grr. And bloh. Grrbloh.
Since getting bitten (twice!) on the sole of my foot by a famishes deerfly while out in the canoe yesterday, things seem to have gone downhill. I wasted most of Saturday evening, working a bit on G's kitchen curtains but mostly doing useless things I can't recall, most likely involving the internet; today was pretty much a waste as well, as I did nothing of note except for knocking a glass of lemonade onto my keyboard as I frantically searched for something I needed for my dance practice. Well, I found it, but because of the lemonade, I lost any chance I ever had of getting to the bus on time. But G is kind and dropped me off and picked me up from rehearsal.
Actually, the reason I was running late for practice was that the photos were supposed (can you see where this is going?) to be today, so I had to be coiffed and made up, which took me longer than I'd anticipated. Today being a sort of lousy day for everyone, not only the photographer but also the sound/lights (?) guy bailed, which means that all that adjusting will be going on next week, which is our last rehearsal and the day we're inviting family/friends to see, since they won't be able to see the show itself. However, it gave us a chance to dance in our costumes, which we hadn't done up to now, and it made me see that a 20's wavy bob would suit me quite well, should the urge ever again strike me to chop off my locks.
Getting back to the deerfly, one of the bites bled and hurt right away but it's the other one, which is closer to the side of my foot, that's causing me swelling and grief today. As it's not yet turned an unnatural shade or prevented me from walking, I'm not alarmed, but I hope it'll clear up promptly. I want to go to the gym tomorrow!
Three more weeks before my departure, and here are a few things I must do:
- buy rail passes
- call my dentist to see if there's a slot for me in his schedule before the 26th
- call the embassies of relevant countries to be absolutely, positively sure I don't need a visa
- decide what I'm taking with me and decide what (if anything) I must buy before I leave
- get __* rolls of slide film and a few more rolls of regular film and get camera from parents
- drop of rolls of b&w film
- clean apartment
- finish G's curtains
- figure out if it's worth continuing with my gym membership
- thoroughly analyse personal finances (as soon as next paycheque comes in) and arrange for August's bills to be payed
- sew new skirt?
* In Western Europe, I used three rolls of slide film in four weeks; in Vietnam, four rolls in as many weeks; in Greece, three weeks and 6 rolls of slide film. I always manage to limit myself to what I have, but the problem is how much I should allow myself -- one roll a week (at 36 shots per roll) isn't quite sufficient, but two is perhaps a tad extravagant, especially given I'll have a second camera, with print film. But then, it seems a waste of time to be switching cameras and trying to judge on the fly what is "slide-worthy" and what is not. So for Greece, I told myself I could snap away to my heart's content despite the fact that with three other people along, it was guaranteed we'd have many photos is quadruplicate. For a five-week trip, maybe seven or eight rolls would be a happy medium. Or I could always train myself to be a better photographer and not waste pictures!
