Update on the mysterious cheque front: turns out it's not so mysterious after all. A couple of months ago, my father asked me if he could use my name to get an extra mail-in rebate after he bought some tool or other.

"If anyone calls you, you're not my daughter, you've never heard of me and you did, in fact buy a nail gun/table saw/router last month. Capice?"

"Yes, Daddy."

So that explains the Black & Decker reference. Mystery solved!

I've never had such grateful students; in addition to the lovely bottle of wine one gave me last week, yesterday I received a wonderful gift basket from the whole class. And this was only after the written exams!
