Apr. 9th, 2005 01:07 pmSalads usually don't interest me all that much. In restaurants, I only ever eat them if they're part of a table d'hôte and when I eat them at home, it's usually because I don't feel like eating anything heavy. Because salads aren't very filling (I pity people on salad-only diets) unless you eat a huge portion, which could take hours, or unless you pile on the filler. I'm in the process of wrapping my mind around that concept, so today I tried a bed of Asian greens (so said the package, though I don't see what's Asian about them; they're spindly and tough to spear with a fork) with cucumber, tomato, plain white fish cooked with lemon juice and, the crowning glory, oyster mushrooms fried in butter. Mmm, butter. And I'm not a huge mushroom fan, but oyster mushrooms are just so delicious and I love their texture. Though English should really adopt the French name for them, as pleurotte is so much prettier than oyster. On top of all that, one of the gourmet salad dressings my students gave me. This one is Sicilian style, but made with maple syrup. Surprisingly enjoyable! Sweet yet light.
So now that I'm done eating it all, I think I'll go enjoy to gorgeous weather by sewing. Two skirts left, then I can finally take a break and make something for myself! I also have to pack some boxes, as tomorrow is the first step of Operation Moving To Château Punkie.
