It's so hard, being good. Which is why today, I wasn't. After looking at my map of Tokyo, I determined that Nippori (where a whole bunch of fabric stores are) was within reasonable walking distance and since the day was nice, I'd take a stroll down thataway. I was right, it's very reasonable: 40 minutes at a brisk pace, whereas by public transit, it would take perhaps 15 minutes (3 metro stops then 2 train stops) but would cost almost $4.

I told myself I wouldn't buy anything at Tomato except for $1/m fabric, unless it was a too-cute-to-not-buy vegetable print. Because I have a thing for vegetable prints, dontcha know. I stuck to that at least, and told myself that I'd been productive lately, using up 3m of previously undedicated fabric to make a skirt, not to mention various remnants that are now pillowcases, so I felt quite justified in buying 18m of fabric. But it only cost $22! And look!

Pears! Citrus! Vegetables! And BIRDS THAT SAY "CHUBBY BROS"! It would take a stronger woman than me to resist something like that. The purple print will be a skirt, the pale green polkadots a pillowcase (it was a small remnant, there's not much of it) and the veggies will go in the vegetable-print stash until I figure out what, exactly, I want to do with it all. The large fish print (there are other sea creatures on it as well) is going to be for my brother -- I'll ask him whether he wants curtains or a bed-spread or something else. The fruit will soon be covering two cushions and will go nicely (in theme, at least) with the curtain that hides my fridge:

Also:

Fushigi Yuugi, vol. 4 (Yuu Watase): This corresponds roughly to episodes 13-16 in the anime, I believe. Tamahome goes to Kutou to try to bring Yui back, Chichiri impersonates Hotohori so he can go off searching with Nuriko and Miaka, Tasuki appears. One thing worth mentioning is that Miaka and Tamahome make a MUCH cuter couple when you don't have to hear them constantly repeating each other's name or see the same flashback ten times. I probably "read" this when I bought it several years ago, but this time, I don't really need much of the furigana! Though to be fair, it only takes so many times before you recognize "Suzaku no miko", "Suzaku shichi seishi" and the names of the various seishi. And even if I didn't know the story, I can confidently say that I'd understand at least 70 to 80% of it. One pleasant surprise is to be convinced, once and for all, that the funny bits are truly funny (Hotohori: "Mairu wa yo, Nuriko!") and not lingering fondness of my first true anime obsession; even though I've seen the same jokes in the anime countless times, even though I know they're coming and even though I don't read the dialogue all that fast, I've surprised myself by laughing out loud on more than one occasion.

Black Adder I: "Black, his gloves of finest wool, black, his codpiece made of metal..." What can I say about this except that it's always funny? "Baaa." "Oh Edmund, it is the lying I find so hurtful!" It makes me want to have a pet Baldrick. I'd make him wash, though. He's kind of like a hobbit (a rather dim hobbit), I could have one of him and one of Sam and keep them in my pocket. Then Baldrick could come up with cunning plans and Sam would argue with him about them while preparing taters. Maybe I'm kind of slow, but I only just realised that Percy is Darling from the fourth season.
