Jun. 9th, 2008 07:13 pmOver two months ago, I started teaching preschool... And I've not written about it, have I? I'll get to that someday, I suppose... -_-;
This week, I'm at the head school (it's a franchise-type operation) for training. I was observing the elementary class this afternoon, which is taught half in Japanese, because the kids don't understand enough English to follow along in that language. They were reading a little story about a pig dancing a jig in a wig, and the teacher asked them if they thought the pig was pretty. One boy blurted, "Okama!" and I snorted and started laughing. The teacher, whose Japanese seems quite good, heard/saw my reaction, and turned to me.
"What does that mean?" So I translated.
Obviously, we haven't been watching the same anime to improve our Japanese...
Another thing, it seems that it's a requirement to have an adorable, curly-haired, excitable little southpaw boy in each school. I have one in my class (in my mind, he's Akaya) and the head school has one as well.
