Oct. 15th, 2008 11:21 pmLast night I completely forgot to write about the highlight of my day! :O
At my new job, I teach a lesson to an adorable couple, Akira and Yachiyo ("Please call me Yacchi!"), both near retirement age. We were doing invitations and refusals, and to make it more interesting, I asked them to think up invitations to odd events and/or to give ridiculous excuses. After Akira had invited his wife to an earthworm race, it was Yacchi's turn.
"Saturday," she asked, "would you like to go with me to a baby crapping contest?"
As my brain frantically tried to make sense of this ("She must have meant clapping, right? RIGHT?!? Then again, Japan is the land of bizarre, so... But surely this sweet older lady doesn't use the word "crapping" in casual conversation?!") my facial muscles were probably twitching like mad and I had to cough to disguise my laughter. I still don't understand how I managed to keep from splitting my sides, but I maintained a (mostly) straight face while attempting to get her to clarify what, exactly, she meant by a "baby crapping contest".
Turns out she wanted to say "creeping". XDDDDD
In other news, I finally started studying for the 日本語能力試験! Go me! ^_^;;; First of all, that involved buying white-out to cover G's answers (I have his kanji books, because unlike him, I actually completed mine, back when we were studying Japanese!), then I managed to do the first three chapters. Not too hard, because they cover the most basic kanji, including numbers, but still... it's a start, right? It was at least heartening to know that I remembered all the on-yomi and kun-yomi for those kanji!
