I live! MWAHAHAHAHA!

So. A run-down of my last few days.

Monday:

Worked; went home; sewed for an hour or so; went to Shibuya to meet D (who had been staying over, which I don't think I'd mentionned) for supper at The Lockup. I normally wouldn't have gone out so close to the deadline, but D was leaving super early Tuesday morning to go back to Canada, so... Anyway, The Lockup was hilarious, though the food wasn't anything special -- except that their "spicy" IS ACTUALLY REALLY SPICY! -- and we got a bit lost looking for the washrooms. Got home around 10, did cutting and hand sewing until 2 a.m.

Tuesday:

After getting about 4 hours of sleep, got up early to see D off; sewed; went to work; took the train to my second job; had an hour to sit in the bakery, studying kanji and eating pastries; taught two classes; got home at 9:30; sewed until 2 a.m.

Wednesday:

Got up early to work on the costumes; went to work; stopped at Yuzawaya before going to second job (getting supremely irritated by the fact that Japanese people are SLOW WALKERS and WHY DOES YUZAWAYA HAVE NARROW ESCALATORS BECAUSE YOU KNOW ALL THOSE OBASANS AND OBAACHANS ARE NEVER GOING TO WALK UP OR DOWN THEM AND PEOPLE IN A HURRY ARE STUCK FUMING BEHIND THEM) to pick up some leather strips to braid a belt for Pocahontas; ran through the ticket gate just as my express train was pulling out so I had to wait for the next one; went to my second job and only had 15 minutes in the bakery to have supper; taught two classes; was driven over to the culture centre for my last class, sat beading Pocahontas while waiting for students; got home at 10:15.

K arrived a little after 11 with her sewing machine because while I love my mine, it's nowhere near silent. K's machine (we named it R2 because it makes all these cute little bloop-beep-beep sounds) was built for stealth and also has all these fancy pants functions like automatic threading and thread snipper. While it's a good machine and pleasant to sew with, I don't like the fact that it always gives you one extra stitch once you've stopped pressing the pedal, nor the fact that there's a speed dial (seriously!) on it. Call me old-school, but I prefer to be able to control all that stuff with only the pedal, because sometimes that one stitch makes all the difference.

I won't go into all the details, except to say that K is the best sewing assistant ever. I set her to work doing everything I didn't have time to, such as cutting fringe, beading, braiding, ripping seams, basting, ironing, etc. etc. etc. We were limited by only being able to use her machine (mine and the serger are way too noisy for the dark watches of the night when one has neighbours), but we almost managed to get everything done -- we stayed up all night sewing, and Snow White did not get her white collar, and my Sleeping Beauty collar is an embarrassingly wonky rush job, but everyone was dressed and we looked damn good, if I do say so myself.

How we managed to not keel over, I'll never know. When we got to school, I was going on under 10 hours of sleep in the previous 72 hours. I guess the mood from the bouncing-off-the-wall-kids was catching, because the fatigue only hit me in the afternoon, after they and their mothers had all left. The director sent me home early, and for some reason, my sleep-addled brain decided that before heading home, I should shop!

:D

So I bought a cute hoodie and some socks, then got on the bus. At first I thought I'd stand to avoid falling asleep in my seat, but the bus was nearly empty, so I succumbed to the siren call of "It's only 15 minutes, I'll be all right." But I wasn't, and woke up somewhere I'd never been, with no idea where I was; my bus goes all the way to Chitose-Karasuyam on the Keio line, which is a ways away. I got off, thinking I'd walk back for a while, or at least find a koban to find out where the hell I was, but then decided, "Screw this, I'll just wait for a bus back the other way." The bus stop sign didn't really help, because the map only shows major stops on the route (and while the major stop nearest my place was only two major stops away, there could be anywhere from one to six stops in between). Finally, it turns out I'd only gotten off four stops past mine. If I'd walked a bit further, I would have seen the green nets of the nearby driving range, but I was just too tired. Still, it was a reminder of the fact that I should really get around to exploring my neighbourhood in that direction, because so far all I've done is walk the route to and from Kichijouji and Mitaka, and there seem to be lots of cool places off those beaten tracks and also to the south and east of me.

Once I got home (around 3:30, I think) I crashed, woke up for a minute or two while it was still light, decided that getting up to brush my teeth was too much effort, and went back to sleep. I woke up again at 1:43 and have been up since then, wondering why I'm not starving, because in the past 24 hours, I've eaten nothing but half a bag of chips, a handful of chocolates, a Halloween cupcake, a KitKat, a curry bun and an onigiri. I'd better go back to bed now if I want to function as a normal human being tomorrow. Er, today.

Pictures to follow at a later time, but now Tabitha's mewing at me to turn out the lights and curl up with her.

I'll probably find lots of silly typos later, but for now, good night.
