Cabaret!

Last night G took me out to "La Ferme rouge", after promising me to the night before, only he was sleeping at the time and had to be told again.

The place is a restaurant featuring an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet and live entertainment, the centrepiece being (for G, anyway) a huge steaming pile of crab's legs. When we arrived and were led to our table, past the boat-shaped buffet and loud tables of regular working people (especially that fat guy in the hawaiian shirt, who wouldn't shut up) out for a sophisticated *ahem* night out, I must admit that the snob in me sighed and thought, "Oh great, here's a place that will serve us lousy food and amateur dance acts and be pretentious and expensive about it."

Happily, I was proven wrong on all counts. The food, while not the best I've ever eaten, was good (good drinks, too!); the service was friendly and quick; the entertainment was very enjoyable. It's almost impossible to not get caught up in the excitement -- most of the staff sings, with surprisingly good voices, and some of the others dance (obviously, a lot of thought went into the choreographies) -- because they all look like they're having so much fun. After that first French cancan number, I was sold. The regular announcements of birthdays and anniversaries, while a waiter runs out with a cake and sparklers, added to the atmosphere as well.

So here's my hearty recommendation for La Ferme Rouge. 30 dollars for a seafood buffet and two hours of fun, live entertainment isn't a bad deal at all!
