All that worry for nothing...
May. 17th, 2002 10:23 pmSo apparently my messages was posted. Good. :)
My first full day in Paris, so I did the obvious thing; I took the metro to Ile de la Cite (sorry no accents) and visited Notre-Dame. I took lots of pictures, and I hope the slides turn out nicely, and even climbed up to the top. The staircases are spiral, and they get smaller and smaller the further up you go. Hard to believe, even the first one is pretty narrow! The stones there are worn down in the middle from the countless feet that climbed them before me. The gargoyles are quite charming, some gazing wistfully out over the city, some glaring at it, and one sticking out its tongue, looking rather resigned.
After that, I walked over the Left Bank and walked around, admiring the buildings in the St-Germain area and eventually found my way to the Jardins du Luxembourg, where I made the acquaintance of several queens and female saints of France and elsewhere, and even asked a fellow tourist to snap a picture of me beside Marie de Medicis. The gardens are calm and relaxing, and there's a very nice exhibition of photographs from the Himalayas mounted on the fence around them.
I was an old hand at taking the metro, today, because I suspect that metros everywhere are pretty much the same. You just follow the signs. ^_^
I also... went to see a movie. The new Ghibli one, which is very good and surreal.
Tomorrow I'm going to the Louvre, because admission is cheaper on Sundays.
Take care, all! :)
