What's on my mind?
Apr. 28th, 2006 06:11 pmThis is how it works: Comment on this entry and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation of what the word means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play along.
Pissenlit -- because I spent half the afternoon uprooting them! Did you know that the English "dandelion" comes from the French "dent de lion" (lion's tooth, because of the appearance of the leaves) but the French word refers to the fact that the plant was used as a diuretic (I believe they made an infusion out of it, though nowadays it's just eaten in salads).
Paris -- I wasn't sure that after all those songs, all those poems, all those texts, the city would live up to my expectations, but it did, and even surpassed them in a way I can't quite describe. I mean, it's Paris!
Pierogies -- With sour cream. 'Nuff said.
Pigment -- When I was about eight, I thought up the pun "pigment of your imagination" and managed to use it as a witty comeback. Daddy was so proud of me, he loves puns. Whoever said they were the lowest form of humour was obviously smoking something, as a truly good pun is a rare and beautiful thing (see my favourite line ever of Yes Minister).
PliƩ -- I've been taking ballet lessons for almost 13 years and to me, doing barre exercises is almost like meditating with my body. I can relax my mind completely and concentrate on the here and now of my body. Better than yoga!
Pin -- Pins are such useful objects, how could I sew without them? Also, the safety variety is very useful is costume situations.
Peter Rabbit -- With my discerning taste in literature, I was a huge Beatrix Potter fan by the time I was two.
Peloponnese -- There was breathtaking countryside all over and on the Argolic Gulf I found what is possibly one of the most wonderful places in the world, Nafplio.
Pneumonia -- Oh, what fun I had getting my (sometimes disbelieving) students to pronounce it properly in French. "Really, you have to pronounce the "p" before the "n"!" *try to stifle laughter at their efforts*
Punkie -- (of course!) He's not so punkie now, since I used the clippers at #4, but it'll grow back. :D
In other news, my hands are sore from my War on Dandelions and I leave for New York early Sunday morning!
