I've been sewing!

I actually made a pattern! I mean, I didn't just pin and sew, I actually made a muslin, tested it and kept it for further use! It's a bit hard to see in the photo, but the neck is a yoke (think Egyptian necklace-style). Hits mid-thigh and is sort of sheer.

This is my modified version of McCall's 4021. I made a top following the directions a few years ago, only to discover that "semi-fitted" according to them is "damn loose" to me. For this incarnation, I made the front and back into single pieces (the pattern has them in 3, sort of princess-seamed) and lengthened it considerably, so that it reaches my knees. I've worn it over skinny jeans, will wear it over leggings and if I find a cute belt, will wear it on its own as a dress. The fabric is this lovely, soft vintage cotton I got off Ebay a while back (can't remember when the seller said it was from, 40s? 50s? but it's 36" width) and the blue is dupioni. I'm still debating whether or not to add blue banding on the arms as well, or just leave it as is. Thoughts?

My original plan was to make this in a great green, pink, black and violet cotton plaid I have (it sounds weird but trust me, it's fabulous) and had it all cut out and everything before I realised that it would look much better with a contrasting colour at the neck and bottom. Unfortunately, I had nothing exactly the colour I wanted in my stash; so many fabrics were close but just off. So I had to go buy some and I've not washed it yet, which is why this one was finished first. It's a really simple pattern, quick to make up because there's no fitting and/or adjusting involved, it's supposed to be loose. :D

I also finished some pyjamas (no picture) and am mostly done a skirt. Much knitting has also been done, but as it's pretty much all squares for my blanket, it's not so exciting to write about. HowEVER! I've only got one or two more squares to go, depending on how much yarn I have, so then it'll be a fun evening or two of weaving in ends before I get to the actual blanket-construction part. Because as you all know, Tokyo in July is the perfect setting for warm blankets. >_< Though really, the temperature has been unusually cool this week, with a dip BELOW 20 degrees the other night! *shock and disbelief* At any rate, I may have to review my blanket plan, as it seems I managed to get 18 squares each out of 2 of my colours, and only 15 each out of two other colours, from what were supposedly balls of the same size and weight as the first. Bloh.

And now, some more random Yuu Yuu Hakusho subtitles!

I should have posted these earlier, now I've forgotten the context of several of them. Ah well, they're funny anyway. In keeping with previous disks, the bizarre, ever-changing naming conventions continue, such as Shigure becoming Tokiami and Mukuro sometimes becoming Suzukoma. And bizarre vocabulary choices, such as "handlace" for "handcuff".

Whatever difficulties I must face I will dissolve it

His devil factors in his body This said about Yuusuke discovering his latent youki, I believe.

The most safety reason

Be hurry

I come is your freedom Uh... what?

Let's die! They were actually saying "You will die!" or "I'm going to kill you!" but it's all the same, right?

interflow between men and women That's certainly a good way to explain where babies come from.

children who born by behavior between men and women Another good euphemism! These lines were from the flashbacks to Hiei's (and Yukina's) past.

It included the love of me to the youth times I really should have been paying more attention to the Japanese dialogue, I can't figure this one out anymore.

This is a stuff with decease

No need to flurry This one was oddly appropriate: the actually meaning was along the lines of "Don't be upset" but it was said to the woman who tossed Hiei out of the Koorime's home country/mountain/floating land and there was snow falling at the time, so...

Fight rushly

Magic yoyo, set by all effort Remember Rinku, the little kid at the Ankokubujutsukai? He's back! And this is apparently what he yells when he attacks. -_-;

I am a cigarette-addict, this is my wife Koko Said by the big Youkai who shows up with his buddies to pay their respects at Raizen's grave. Because I was too busy laughing my head off, I didn't pay attention to the dialogue so this may actually be what he said.

Why disunion and death appear? Such is the tragedy of life.

Win is a must

Why he didn't been hurt by my spirit? LOLyoukai strikes again!

Suicidal Style Devil Spirit Bit Damn, I completely forgot whose attack this was...

Magic Taboo Way Practice Reserve Wall You know someone was just looking up each character in a Chinese-English dictionary and dutifully copying them down. The question is, did it originally make sense in Japanese?

He is killing toward Yuusuke violently Why does all the killing have to be so violent?

Your friend looks not pitiless in attacking at all

Your gas has been changed They switched my regular for Super Premium? You bastards! (They were talking about youki)

I won't lose my dad's face Yuusuke kept a pretty strange memento, if you ask me.

I don't quack and deceive I don't believe Again, I forgot to note who said this. Bad Yaourt Girl!

can't solve knot in your heart An oddly touching turn of phrase there, Hiei (said to Mukuro).

Aaaaaaaaand, some television critique!

The L Word (Season 4): Before I say anything else, I have to admit that no matter how sappy it was, the Shane/Shay storyline totally sucked me in. And no matter how psychotically cruel Jenny was (I was just starting like her, too!) or how bizarrely passive Helena was (this was the super-manipulative bitch of season 2?!) or how completely boring that director character near the end was (Jane? I can't even remember her name, she was that insipid) or even the horrible hat Shane wore on Paige's birthday, it was all worth it to see Shane in knee garters and Brylcreem. My only beef with that little montage was the fact that it cut up what may very well be the hottest sex scene ever filmed. Though maybe the director though that showing that scene uncut would cause too many heads to explode from the hotness of it? I mean, Shane -- who is sex on legs, her leaving Carmen at the altar notwithstanding -- and the Terminatrix together? *fans herself and wipes up the drool* It's a credit to the actresses that they make it work so well, because they should look ridiculous together, as they're built on totally different scales: tiny (Katherine Moennig/Shane) and Amazonian (Kristanna Loken/Paige).

Other than that, it looks like Tina's finally decided that she wants Bette after all. Can't say that I blame her! But Bette, sleeping with your student? Really. And Tasha was absolutely lovely, too bad she was shipped out again. Poor Alice! Jenny's argument that thinly disguising her friends as characters in her story is like Monet painting water lilies was total bullshit, it's not the same at all; Monet never pretended his was lilies were "whopper pillies". How could sex between to gorgeous women like Helena and Catherine be so dull? Right, it's all about the money. Papi was amusing, though I still can't figure out why they cast an Indian to play a Latina. Oh well, she's still eye-candy.

That's enough for now, this entry is too long as it is and I have a skirt to finish!

ETA: Regarding the I am a cigarette-addict, this is my wife Koko line, I've just had a thought that it's possible the kanji for the character's name mean that, but had a different (phonetic) reading in Japanese. But I'm too lazy to look it up.
