Tuesday evening, I phoned the landlords to ask them to replace my kaput mailbox. When I got home from work Wednesday evening, a brand new mailbox was there to greet me. Now that's service!

Perhaps it's just me, but isn't it a bit selfish and dishonest to accept a job you obviously aren't suited for -- which you're only taking to save up some money in order to do something else, a job that pays you for a year to learn another language, a year during which you produce absolutely nothing -- and stay there, making yourself miserable and pissing people off?!

Teaching adults has many rewards, chief among them the chance to meet people with all sorts of different backgrounds; I learn a lot. However, it also throws you face to face with some rather disagreable cases, such as People Who Are Totally Oblivious To How Much They Get On Everybody's Nerves; People Who Will Not Listen To Good Advice; People Who Think Unreasonably Highly Of Themselves And Their Perceived Proficiency In French. Thankfully, I don't seem to raise people's hackles much, so I rarely witness the moments that might shake my faith in humanity.
