My serger is so cool, I may never want to use my sewing machine again! All right, maybe not. Anyway, I got my Speedylock set up this evening and watched the first part of the video, which explains how to thread the machine. And you really need that explanation, because coloured dots only go so far. The lady in the video, I'm going to guess she's a housewife from the American midwest, with an oh so 80's hairstyle, won't call the damn thing a serger, it's "your Speedylock this" and "your Speedylock that". Yes, I know it's a Speedylock, I bought the thing and it's written right there on the machine. Also the sound in tinny and the video quality is pretty bad, so the closeups don't look too good. The fact that you're dealing with tiny parts and complicated machinery doesn't help.

I had brunch with the Guatemala crew this morning and the rest of the day was spent blissfully doing nothing. I sat down and read, for the first time in I don't know how long. Maybe I'll finally manage to finish House of Leaves! About time, too, I've had it for almost a year. Of course, there are other books that I've had for years and haven't touched, and there I was at the library last week borrowing more, so I have no excuse. NO EXCUSE!

After reading 50 pages or so I got comfortable and dozed off, slept for an hour and felt so relaxed when I awoke that I never wanted to move, ever again. I think I'll have to try that again, tomorrow; it's so out of the ordinary that my whole body was having trouble adjusting to the novelty of it. I spent the day snacking on chocolate and veggies and Kraft Dinner and fruit juice, which further served to disorient my system. It's sad, there was a time I'd spend whole days reading (The Fionavar Tapestry in 4 days, for instance) and now I feel fulfilled if I manage more than 30 pages in one sitting. And manga doesn't count. At least I read on the bus, even if it's only a ten-minute ride to work.
I never knew browsing Amazon could be so entertaining and informative. So there's this one person accusing a book of POETRY of being plotless and having no characters. *coughchoke* Then there's another dope complaining that Guy Gavriel Kay's Lord of Emperors is a bad book because book #2 in a trilogy is supposed to tie up loose ends from book #1 and set the stage for book #3. Hint: it's not a trilogy! On the bright side, book #4 of A Song of Ice and Fire is due out next August.

Another day with nothing much to do. I'm currently trying to finish up the curtains I promised G for his dining room... six months ago. >_< Hey, at least they'll be done before 2005! Anyway, curtains a actually harder to make than they look. You have to measure, because even the slightest difference looks uneven. Right now I'm just trying to free up some room to better organise my things, a concern precipitated by the event of the kitchen ceiling leaking the other day, almost right above my sewing machine. From now on, I'm putting the carrying case over it no matter what!

I'm trying to delude myself into thinking it was a good thing to have dragged my feet about the drapes, as it'll be a piece of cake to finish them with my serger. Or at least a good sight easier, if not cakey.
