Jan. 11th, 2005 12:10 amIs it morally objectionable to write up a list of all the books one has to read just so one is able to cross off two manga volumes to be read later during the evening? Though I didn't include the book I read last week, at least.
Speaking of which, Confessions of a Shopaholic was fluffy fluff with a hot pink cover. It didn't make me laugh out loud the way Brdiget Jones's Diary (yes, my forays into chicklit have so far been limited) did, but it was amusing. The main character, however, was seriously trying my patience by the middle of the book, showing a perfect example of the kind of behaviour that really irritates me. The bits about the parents are funny, as are the bits about shopping, but I have to say that the love portion of the book is extremely unconvincing. It just sort of happens, like, "Oh, our heroine has had enough troubles, let's toss something good her way." Though I suppose it isn't all that unrealistic to think that a smart, succesfull man would want a woman who obsesses over scarves and the latest in shoes. Also, I think the whole debt problem was solved a leeeetle too easily...
Of course, I'm being too harsh; it is, after all, meant to be a pleasant diversion.
