Sep. 11th, 2005 12:23 amG and I have come to the unavoidable conlusion that our love is like a dumpling: simple and inexpensive, yet unpretentious, filling, nutricious and delicious! Especially with spicy peanut sauce. *drool*
Japanese class made the week fly by so fast, it was weird to exit the building yesterday and think, "Hey, it's the weekend! Time to go to work." Indeed, what we learned was, with the exception of some vocabulary, stuff I already knew. It's nice to understand what the teachers are talking about, but I hope the fall won't be too hard in a week or so, when I venture into uncharted waters. Then the others will be all smirking, like, "How's it feel now?" Actually, they're all very nice and class is interesting, even though what we did was mostly practice introducing ourselves and each other, counting and repeating simple sentences: "This is a desk. Is that a desk? No, that's not a desk, it's a sock. Hello, this is Mr. Tanaka. Is he a student? No, he's a lawyer. Is Miss Hayashi also a lawyer? No, she's a musician." Etc., etc.
I'm getting bolder, sewing without a pattern. The first time it was a simple skirt, made tricky by the fact that I pleated it and as I was using a bolt of yukata cloth, it was only a foot wide so I had to add more pannels than originally planned. This time I'm also using kimono fabric, but three lengths of silk cut from an old, stained kimono. The most obvious stains are, I'm fairly certain, from the gold embroidery details that highlight the leaves and flower pattern, and since the whole thing is faded to the same background colour, I think it looks fine. I'm glad I got the third piece (I won all three in separate ebay auctions), because two would have made me a miniskirt, nothing more. And after dilly-dallying for a few days, I decided I wanted knee-length with gores! And they look damn good, if I do say so myself. It's not done yet, though, as I have to go pick up some off-white lining and a zipper in a less blinding shade of white than what I currently have. Not my usual colours, but it's so pretty!
It seems I've done nothing productive all day, except for sorting some papers (but not putting them away where they should go, they're in little piles all over my cutting table) and going in to work for a couple of hours. Wasted day, if you ask me. Hmph.
