Now it's snowing! Better late than never, eh?

A raining and melting Christmas is only slightly better than a brown (green) one, but it was still quite nice. My parents' tree only went up on Christmas eve, because my father had just finished putting in oak flooring, and it was probably also the smallest tree we've ever had. My father tends to like going into the woods and bringing home half a forest in the form of two bushy trees that we have to wrestle together, so this little perfectly conical number, that is a foot away from the ceiling, is a new experience.

The big present from my parents was money, as is the trend nowadays, and my mother went wild with little stocking stuffers. She Santa brought me socks (of course!) and the cutest little office supplies, bright plastic push-pins and clips. Good thing I have a bulletin board to use them! And really, what is life without cute office supplies? My father and Max both announced that they hadn't had any time for Christmas shopping, so nothing from them [yet].

Actually, my mother surprised me in the book department this year; I was expecting Michel Tremblay's latest (and sequel to the last two Christmas books I got from my mother), but instead she gave me a book of cooking ingredients. That's right, just pictures of raw ingredients, very useful when a recipe calls for something you've never heard of nor seen before. The amusing part is that though the book is in French, it was originally published in Australia -- the inclusion of Australian cheeses, among the more common European ones, clued me in. "Is there crocodile meat in it?" my father asked. Why yes, there is! Also different types of kangaroo steaks. XD It's a different perspective for me: jackfruit is in the regular fruit section, but green papaya (as well as some Mexican types of chili) is in the "exotic foods" section.

As for my dress, it's... not moving along as fast as I'd like. G's family is arriving today and I had all these wonderful visions of having finished everything and spending a leisurely day cleaning the guest bedroom (a.k.a. my sewing room) and sitting around sipping eggnog, but I'm afraid I'll have to stay home and rush while G picks them up at the airport. Thankfully, they're only arriving late this afternoon, so I have a few hours ahead of me. I'm putting aside the (unfinished) coat for now, as the dress is really the most important thing, and coat-wise there's annoying stuff like sewing in lining and attaching the sleeves left to do.
My dress is cut. 0_0 No turning back now, I've used up all the silk I had for the lining.
