Mar. 11th, 2006 04:59 pmLast Saturday was lovely, but today is really spring. I helped G break and shovel some of the ice in the driveway (he's still at it) and was reminded about one of the best parts of spring: watching the snow melt. Watching little rivulets form in driveways and on sidewalks, seeing them run down to the gutter where they pick up speed, eating away at the snowbanks on their way down. When I was a kid, I'd stand in the runoff in my rubber boots, sloshing water toward the manholes, crushing ice and snow beneath my feet, the sun warm on my back; hHow liberating it felt to be free of winter coats, wearing only a sweater, seeing the earth revealed once again!
