My corset may not be finished, but I have everything I need. Today's expedition to Tomato yielded not only grommets, but 22m of fabric for the princely sum of 22$! That's right, their 100yen/m section is full of good stuff. I picked up everything I needed for G's costume (except I still have no idea what I'm going to do about the boots) and I bought 7m of this gorgeous tapestry for myself. I see a gown. A big gown. A big, full-skirted gown. The background is a deep, steel grey and the flower design is in different shades of pale blue, pink and peach, which produces a subtle, shimmering effect. I have a piece of silk that will look absolutely gorgeous with it and will brighten up the grey a little.

As for the corset, I finally sat down and actually worked on it tonight, while watching The Terminal. I guessed (rightly) that it wasn't the type of movie that you can't look away from. At any rate, I sewed on a good part of the binding; I'll try to finish that tomorrow and maybe do the grommets. Then I'll have a corset! Oh, and I should fix the waist on my petticoat, it's lumpy and the thing's too long, anyway. Then a chemise, then a gown. Though since the theme of the embassy's Halloween party is "The Canadian Rockies Horror Show", underwear would be perfectly acceptable! And there's G's costume, too. I'm tempted to start with the really easy stuff (sash, scarf) but it would probably be wiser to start with the pants, as I can't imagine a pantless pirate. Still, if the smaller stuff's done, I'll feel more accomplished, so... But that's neither here nor there, my costume has priority. Unless a serger thread colour issue comes up, in which case it's "Everything this colour goes first!" I may have gotten quite good at rethreading it, but that doesn't mean I want to spend any more time doing it than I have to.

Ah, Leonard Cohen may not be the one to cheer you up, but could you ask for a more beautiful soundtrack to be miserable to?
Petticoat done (except for hook & eye)! Yaaaaay! Chemise half-done! Weeeee!
