ARH! And not in a piratey way.
Oct. 13th, 2006 05:04 pmNOOOOOOOO!!!
Wouldn't you know it, I'm going to be in Kyoto from the 20th to the 23rd of this month and the Kyoto Costume Institute "Empire Style" exhibition is from the 6th of November until the 22nd of December. And since the KCI isn't an actual museum, there's no collection on display, only a few exhibitions throughout the year. And here I was hoping that I'd be able to see it just in time to finish my Halloween costume! :(
SO UNFAIR! *pout*
Oh well, I suppose I could always go back just for that. There's a bus service between Tokyo and Kyoto, 8 hours, starting at 50$ for a regular seat (fancy reclining sleepers are about twice as much). Beats the bullet train, which is 150$ or so. If I take overnight buses, I could just spend a day there and not worry about finding a hotel.
In other costuming news, I got my Costume College welcome letter and had to laugh that the theme is "The Crinoline Era". It's probably the last era I'd be inspired to make a costume for, along with the 1950s; while I love looking at the clothes, I seem to have some sort of ideological objection to those periods, because the thought of wearing them fills my mind with a lot of "Uh... no thanks." If all goes according to plan, I'll have my Halloween dress (Regency), something medieval and something 1660s-1670s. No hoops for me!
