The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants:

Ooh, do I ever want to add another "l" in there!

I would be lying if I said I hadn't expected much from this movie, because a former student of mine, whose taste in films I quite respected, had recommended it, but I was quite impressed. This is top notch stuff, folks: not as laugh-out-loud funny as Now and Then, but deeper and without the bad "here we are, all grown up" bits. Still, I would have liked a warning that I'd be tearing up throughout the whole thing! Definitely a five kleenex movie, and I say that as a compliment. It's poignant, yes, but it never feels trite.

Stories of friendship often seem few and far between, as though the love between friends were somehow less valid than the Twoo Wuv between lovers. It isn't, of course, it just doesn't often get that same recognition in movies, which is a shame, so it was nice to see it celebrated in such a way. How you may not be physically together, but it doesn't really matter; in the end, you're still there for each other.

Alexis Bledel particularly impressed me, as I'd only ever seen her in Tuck Everlasting (and let it be known that my seeing that movie was TOTALLY A-L's fault*!) and in half an episode of Gilmore Girls (which was enough to convince me never to watch that show -- not because of her per se, but because of the artificial, oh-so-witty and clever (HA!) dialogue delivered with completely unnatural inflection). Her turn as reserved, awkward Lena was so honest, I just wanted to give her a hug and take her out for some grilled octopus. Mmm, grilled octopus. Also, her segments gave me the added satisfaction of being able to say, "I was there!" when presented with yet another glorious view of Santorini.

* I'd also like to point out that even though it's because of her that Now and Then came into my life, A-L is also the reason I've seen Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing, and know way more than I'd care to admit about The Young and the Restless. You may now mock her taste in entertainment.**

** Just kidding, A-L, you know I love you, in spite of Y&R. ;D There's no one else I'd rather watch silly girly movies with than you.

Today didn't see as much progress on the blanket as I'd have liked, but at least it's all in one piece, now. And heavy. *prepares to pay a fortune in shipping*

Hahaha…thanks for shattering my fake image of intellectual! Seriously you know you want me to tell you what’s going on with Cane and Lily! I'm making a long list of chick flicks I'm going to make you watch when you come to Canada.
Breakfast xx
