The Imperial Presence Hyoutei feat. Higa
First off, Tabitha thanks you for the compliments, though she feels they're only her due, after all. At the moment, she's alternating between tearing around the apartment, attacking her scratching board, and demanding to be petted, with the occasional break to sit in the window and paw at the screen. LIKE I'M REALLY GOING TO LET HER OUT!
Next off, how 'bout some shiny, sparkly MUSICAL TENNIS?!
Thanks to the fabulous
later_uk and
tayles, I had the last seat but one in row G. So I was close enough to see the boys quite well, but the right side of the stage was hidden by the speakers. I wouldn't normally have minded, because I could see the main action perfectly, but during the whole first act, the Seigaku bleachers were on that side, meaning I COULDN'T SEE THE GOLDEN PAIR AT ALL while they were watching the first three matches! But that's okay, I'll just imagine that they were holding hands or making out behind the bench or something. XDDD If you were there and saw what they were actually doing and that wasn't it, please don't spoil my little fantasy, all right?
SoBecca someone may have said something about WET OISHI and ASS-GRABBING, right? Well, wet Oishi was wet! Soaking wet in white shorts. Did Eiji run to join him as soon as the curtain was down? We can only dream... >:D I can just imagine the production meeting when they came up with that one. "We need more fanservice." "How about we get some of the boys to take off their shirts?" "Nah, that's too easy, and it's been done before." "I've got it! How about we hose a couple of them down?" "Wait, wait! The canon totally has a sudden rainstorm!" "You're a genius! Tennis whites in the rain it is! :D"
As for the ass-grabbing, it didn't happen! ;_; Unless that's what they were doing during the first matches, when I couldn't see them. But I've got a ticket for next week, so it may happen then. *nods* Yes. *hope springs eternal*
Still, ungrabbed asses aside, their match was full of enough LOVE that I was more than satisfied. Actually, it was better than the OVA version, because there were no freaky glowing eyes to distract from the soul-bonding! When they just stood close together, talking and grinning at each other while Shishido sang about their marvelous synchro or something, I was thisclose to melting into a puddle of happy goo. So. Damn. Cute.
The new Atobe and Oshitari were good, I thought, though definitely not as hot as versions 1.0. The rest of Hyoutei was Hyoutei, of course, so Gakuto bounced around and was snarky, Hiyoshi was all, "Gekokujo this! Gekokujo that!", Shishido was such a guy -- I loved how you had Prim and Prissy (Oshitari and Atobe) sitting with one knee crossed over the other and beside them, Shishido hunched over with his legs splayed. I almost expected him to belch and start scratching XD -- Ohtori was sweet and "Shishido-san!", Jirou was spazzy (too bad he didn't get to do much, though I loved his bopping around on top of the bleachers during the doubles 2 match -- or was it another match? My brain, she is not so alive tonight), and Kabaji loomed large.
I've decided that I really like 4th Inui -- the first one will always be my favourite, I think, but this one has the right combination of awkward geekiness and confidence that I think is necessary. The only thing missing is the underlying hint of menace, but that may have been because no Inui Juice was involved in this show.
Kite and Tanishi were hysterical, especially Tanishi threatening to eat the ichinen trio and trying to scare Echizen. "Tanishi, bentou!" *rofl* I love how they'd just randomly appear on stage in the middle of all the matches. And of course, they had to do their little hip swivelling move! And because of Becca, I couldn't help staring at Kite's crotch! >_< I didn't think his pants were that tight (maybe he wore a slightly larger pair tonight? XD), but I'm kind of glad only the back of them was white.
I really liked the opening number, both the song and the choreography; it was really energetic, and all the boys were really into it. Nice jumping! The other stand-outs were Tezuka's solo (I like his voice) and Hyoutei's "Koori no emperor" refrain. And the encore, "FGKS", was awesome, not least because I had Inui standing right behind me. He didn't look too surprised to see a foreigner there -- Laura and Becca, you've inured them! XDDD As far as I could tell, I was the only non-Asian in the audience, though I couldn't see up into the balcony.
The girl seated to my left kept snickering at the funny/cracky stuff, which was just fine with me, because so did I, though I was more discreet about it. She started right at the beginning, at "Gekokujo!" (and it was totally snicker-worthy, I might add), muffling her laughter with her hand, and when the curtain went down on a drenched Oishi at intermission, she couldn't hold it in anymore and was clutching her stomach, shaking in her seat. The only funny thing she didn't snicker at was Echizen's "English" -- I must have been the only one who realised how hilariously bad it was.
In summary: lots of fun all around, and I left the theatre with a grin on my face and a poster and a pamphlet in my bag, so I'm quite content.
That's about all I can think of now, but I'll have a whole new report to write up after next week's show, so stay tuned for that!

"Koori no emperor" is my favourite Hyotei... okay, I really love Saitou's bored chanting in the start of "Katsu no wa Hyotei" as well, but still. XD I'm excited there's a reprise of "Koori..."
Also? Higa hip swivelling could be the real reason why I really like "Dark Horse" >_>

I really like 4th Inui too. No idea why, but he's kinda hawt XD
I think the ass-grab was mostly accidental - hand a leetle too low on Mao-chan's hip... but then, Yuya DID totally get a handful of buttcheek there, so maybe he just though 'what the hell, opening night!' and went for the assgrab. That or he knew I'd love him forever for it XDD
Oishi and Tez are still scared of us! But yeah, the others are more amused 'heh foreigners' than anything else. At least, Mao-chan is...
Glad you had fun!

(Okay, so I'm totally thinking of DL5's Niou/Yagyuu fanservice overload XD)

Actually, Toyoda mentioned the Golden Pair benchwork on his blog, saying how it was a little different from before, but he and Mao-chan worked hard to get it right XDD OTSUKARESAMADESHITA, BOYS!! *glomps*
I'm guessing they're just told to gay it up as much as they can without going overboard. Like, the most common thing between GP is the hand on the shoulder, which really isn't romantic... but we fangirls are a little rabid at times and any touching is good touching XD
