Ame ni furarechatta!
Aug. 6th, 2008 02:03 amM-P and I decided that since we were going to see tenimyu, we'd make it a day of fandom and head out to Ikebukuro for anime goods and doujinshi. We made it just passed the Sanrio store when the sky suddenly opened up and it started bucketing down. I've rarely seen rain that strong, and the only time I've seen it that strong and accompanied by so much thunder and lightning was the time my family and I were camping in Minnesota: when we woke up in the morning, the campground ressembled a war zone, there were so many fallen branches all over. Not that that happened in Ikebukuro, mind you. After hiding out under a storefront awning for a while, we decided, "What the hell," and stepped outside, both of us huddled under my little umbrella. It was terribly romantic, of course, but not as romantic as Tezuka and Fuji sharing an umbrella to protect their hair from a few tiny snowflakes. (I'm sorry, but I can't help giggling about that scene whenever I think about it, because I don't see how there could be any other interpretation for it! XD). Still, romance or no, we were both mostly soaked within seconds.
The whole time we were at Animate (long enough to check out every floor), we could hear the thunder rolling outside, and when we left, it was still pouring. It only abated by the time we got to K-Books, and had started up again just as hard when we left the train to walk to tenimyu.
Before yesterday, M-P knew basically nothing about Prince of Tennis*, so I gave her a crash course while we were waiting in the lobby. ("Kenshin with tennis racquets! This is the main character: he's a brat who never loses. This is the captain: everyone worships buchou. This is Oishi, and he looks good in wet clothes. XD" etc. etc.) Because I'd bought her ticket at the last minute, it was an unassigned seat, and since we were among the first at the theatre, no doubt because of the rain, I traded it in for seat C11. So I gave M-P my original ticket (M46) and settled in for some Golden! Pair! Bench! Action! (Because I'm not at all obsessed with my favourite pair ever and did not buy a huge stack of doujinshi featuring them today, I swear! There's a Silver Pair book in there somewhere...) :DDDD
Since I was nice and close and had already seen the show once, I could pay more attention the faces and what was going onbetween Oishi and Kikumaru in the background. Boys? You don't have to be so subtle, you know. Only the first few row needed sunglasses to shield themselves from your kira kira-ness!
I jest. They were absolutely tooth-achingly sweet, and their synchro was the stuff of many happy fangirl dreams. You're right, Becca, your boy is all kinds of adorable. <3
Tonight's Higa members were Kite and Chinen. For all his freakish height, Chinen has oddly narrow shoulders, don't you think? His "Where did Eishirou go?!" bit was brilliant. XD
The new Hyoutei cast really impressed me. I had no particular attachment to the original one, though I liked them fine, but I thought Houtei B was great, especially Gakuto, among other things because he really works that wig (as cute as the first Gakuto is, the wig does him no favours at all). Shishido B is angrier than A, but I think it works; as for Ohtori, he doesn't get to say much in this show, so the most I can say is that he looks really sweet (and the girl sitting beside me was totally a Silver Pair shipper, judging by her delight giggling at Ohtori's "Shishido-san!" right at the beginning and then at everything involving them). Oshitari doesn't have a face I would consider handsome at all, but he's got a boatload of charisma, so it's all good. Hiyoshi was great, and made me laugh when he brushed Jirou's hand off his shoulder (twice). Jirou did what he could with his few lines and his bouncing around on the bleachers, but I can't tell whether he lacks the stage presence of version A or whether I was just too distracted by the GP love vibes to look at him much. And since I hadn't been able to see the right side of the stage last week, I'd missed Kabaji carefully folding up Atobe's jersey, but oh, how I laughed! He looked so serious while doing it! *rofl*
Maybe because Atobe A exceeded any expectations I may have had, the only new Hyoutei B boy I was a bit disappointed in was Atobe, to tell the truth. His voice is not bad, but he lacks some of the stage presence that the other Atobes have, especially in the first act. During the second he seemed more sure of himself, which helped. His pose, though, while watching the Golden Pair's match of awesome soul-bonded love, was all "My crotch, be awed by the sight of it!" XD Oh, Atobe... *shakes her head and smiles fondly*
I'll probably think of more tomorrow, but I'm too tired right now.
Lindsay met up with us for demachi afterwards, as the rain had stopped. The staff are getting good at smuggling the boys out, it seems, because we only saw 6 taxis leave, and two of them had only one passenger. Unless there were some hiding in the trunk?
* This evening, she made a deal with me. She'll watch PoT if I watch Loveless. I said, "Sure! :D" because I've already downloaded it, so it's not like I wasn't going to watch it anyway... And while I don't expect her to be a convert to the Cult of Pot, I really hope she won't hate it!

Date: 2008-08-05 07:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, Kabaji folding Atobe's jersey made me crack up too, as did him dragging Jiroh out of Ore-sama's seat when Atobe came over XDD
I would totally pay to see Atobe striking a 'my crotch, be awed by it!' pose. Oh, Atobe-sama, I AM in awe of every inch of you XDD Shame Atobe B still seems to be getting used to the role though, so I hope he gets better as the run goes on.
