...a lady on the beach tells you your feet are dirty. It was true, but she was trying to sell me a pedicure, so I think she might have been exagerating. At least a little. Anyway, when she saw I wasn't interested, she tried to get M-P to let her wax her legs. M-P was trying to read her book and thought it very strange when the woman started stroking her leg and tut-tutting because it wasn't silky-smooth.

Well, today was supposed to be our day on the beach. It was, sort of. For about an hour. The weather hasn't been very friendly to us ever since we left HCMC, and today looked like it was going to storm, so we didn't even get to lie around on the beach chairs for very long. It was nice to do nothing for a while and have food and drinks brought to us, though.

We didn't get to the beach that early because we had telephone dates this morning. That didn't work out too well, because first we had to find the bank, as we had no more money, but when we got there it was closed, because it's Saturday. Since we were near the post office we went there directly to mail our post cards and see about phoning. They sold us a phone card that can be used at public phone boxes, so after we were done stamping our post cards, we set off to find a phone.

The thing is, this was a 11$US phone card, and phoning here is horribly expensive, almost 2$ per minute to Canada. To top things off, the wiring must be pretty lousy, because I could hardly hear my Punkie's voice when I got through to him. And even then, I didn't have time to say anything worthwhile, but it was nice to hear his voice, however faintly, for even that short while. I had to call my parents as well, to prove that I really am alive and well.

And, because I keep forgetting, today is my birthday! I'm legal all over, now! Too bad the weather didn't feel like celebrating with me, but what can you do? We had sushi for supper, which was hit and miss: the fish was wonderfully fresh, but the rice wasn't real sushi rice. We also had tempura, which was delicious.

All in all, we weren't productive in the least today. Tomorrow, we're going on a boat trip to some nearby islands, where we're supposed to have a chance to do some snorkelling. Then we take the 6:30pm bus to Hoi An, in order to save a day of travelling.

And as usual while I type my updates, I'm waiting for Hotmail to load... *twiddles her thumbs* And M-P is back in our room, waiting for me to finish so we can go out and have a couple of drinks.

Hmm, I didn't even write about the trouble we went through to change money, today, but I'm too lazy. Ask me about it when I get home. ^_^

I think that as a leaving-Vietnam present, I'm going to buy new clothes to wear for the flight home. I'm already sick of the clothes I have with me, and so I'll buy a new t-shirt or tank top as soon as I can.

Come on, Hotmail, load!

We've spent several hours (due to the weather) watching Channel V, the pan-Asian Much Music, and have come to the conclusion that Asian music videos rock. They're hilarious! Hilariously bad in some cases; we've seen too many Korean/Japanese/Chinese Backstreet Boy wannabe videos in too short a time. Also good are the ones with theme songs from tv shows or movies, most of which are about some sort of tragic love story with one of the protagonists dying at the end.

The best, though, was the Korean version of "It's Raining Men". I wonder what the lyrics in Korean are...

c'est dommage qu'il faisait pas beau =(

I know you can't wait to find out what's happening with the back porch, so here's the latest installment. Max and I removed all the surface planking to expose the joists today, making many earwigs, big ants and sowbugs homeless (poor dears). I showed Max the Lueger way to pull nails (he learns fast). I also bought deck screws and ready-mix cement. We'll anchor the new upright posts so well that even tsunamis will be thwarted should they try to wrest our porch from its bond with Mother Earth (there's great danger of tsunamis in Aylmer these days).
Other than that...we had pizza for supper. And beer. And more beer. The excitement never ends.
Love, YNVF

Becs. Becs.
