What is it about beautiful fabrics that makes me want to spend money like there's no tomorrow? *winces* Well, at least I can rest in the knowledge that it wasn't *all* for me...
I didn't write yesterday because I didn't have time, so now I'll fill you in on our latest adventures.
Yesterday morning, we set of with No. 4, a tour boat operator, to explore some of the islands near Nha Trang. At the first one, we were given an hour to do some underwater exploring. It's too bad that it was overcast and raining, no doubt the little reef fish would have been even cuter in shafts of sunlight. I had fun splashing around, but since I can't hold my breath worth beans I couldn't get deep enough to look closely at the coral. Fortunately, the water there was only 8 to 10 feet deep, and incredibly clear, so I got a good view anyway.
Island number 2 was the scene of "Lunch Hour" and "Happy Hour". But first, a word about our guide. He serenaded us in several languages, using a banana as a microphone, and during Happy Hour, he plied us with wine and pineapples. Only we had to swim out to his little floating bar to get them. He kept trying to get me to drink more!
After lunch (which was plentiful and good, though poor M-P didn't really enjoy it because she was suffering from an unexpected bout of seasickness) and Happy Hour, we were off to island number 3. Yes, they all have names, but I've forgotten them. At this island, there was a beach and various activities not included in the cost of our cruise. The parasailing looked like lots of fun, but several people had already lined up to try it, and I wasn't in my most adventurous mood anyway, so I sat on the beach and read.
Island number 4 was the site of the Bamboo Boats, little boats shapped like large baskets. It looks like quite a feat to get one of those things to move the way you want it to! There were also large nets set up for breeding fish, turtles, crabs and other things we couldn't identify.
When we got back to Nha Trang, we had an hour and a half to kill before getting on the over-night bus to Hoi An. When we finally boarded and everyone else along for the ride had been picked up, we were forced to sit together because there weren't enough seats for everyone to get 2. That meant no room for our legs. And those buses are *really* cramped.
Maybe half an hour into the ride, we drove by another bus that had flipped over. I'm glad our driver seemed at least marginally concerned with our safety, he hit the brakes hard several times to avoid oncoming traffic (because they don't always, you know).
The ride was long, and bumpy, and uncomfortable. I had no room for my legs, it was too hot in the bus, and didn't manage to get more than an hour (if that) of unbroken sleep at a time. Though I fared better than M-P did, she didn't sleep at all. When we reached our hotel, we took a nap, and I think she would have slept the day away if I hadn't woken her.
Since then, we've been wandering around town having loads of clothes made for us. We actually bought another bag, to cart around our extra stuff. It's not as bad as it seems, though, we hardly spend any time at all with our backpacks on our backs.

Becs. Becs.
