I think this is the hottest weather we've had up to date. I had sweat pooling over my upper lip by doing nothing but sitting on a boat, in the shade.

Today we visited M-P's favourite things, temples and tombs, and these were nice ones, not like the gaudy Chinese things we saw in Hoi An. The first place we visited was a pagoda, where actual monks and nuns live. There were lots of cute little old monks, and several very young apprentice monks, whose heads are only partly shaved. I was lucky enough to see one, who couldn't have been more than eight years old, do a little kung fu demonstration, full of graceful leaps and spinning kicks.

After that, we saw the tomb of Tu Duc. I know the pronunciation isn't quite the same as Deux Canards, but close enough for us to make jokes about it. The tomb is impressive, anyway, it was built during his lifetime for use before and after his death. There's a little lake, several temples and buildings, even a play-house where his concubines put on traditional operas.

The next stop was at a little temple that wasn't really interesting except that it had a statue of Mr. Tiger. The guard at the entrance didn't have the proper change for us when we paid our admission fee, so we had to hunt around for him afterwards, but he did pay us back eventually.

We were served a very nice lunch back on the boat, and then we were off to attraction no. 4, which nobody really wanted to go see because it isn't supposed to be very nice... so we skipped that, and the boat took us to another tomb, this one older than Tu Duc's. It was very pretty, but nowhere near as big and impressive.

Because it was so incredibly hot, we're sticky and sweaty and really need showers, so we're going to do that before heading out again. There's a restaurant I want to go to that we didn't go to last night because we were too lazy. This is supposed to be a city known for its food, so we have to sample *all* the local specialties!

Vous mangez beaucoup apparemment? Chanceuses.

Becs. Becs.
