The God of Small Things (Arundhati Roy)

The story "...really began in the days when the Love Laws were made. The laws that lay down who should be loved, and how.

And how much
."

There are some books that move me in such a way that I'm nearly incapable of talking about them. This is one of those books.

I finished reading it on the train and had a hard time composing myself. Though you know right from the beginning that there is death, and what happiness there is is short-lived, it was the emotional build-up and the final, gentle release that had me blinking back tears. Because the narrative skips back and forth, the surprises are of the "how it happened" rather than the "what happened" variety, and every time you think you understand, there is something more, another piece to add to the picture.

Final verdict: 9/10

My private lesson was cancelled today, and I'm very proud of myself for coming home and actually doing something productive, in this case putting away all my laundry, reorganising my sewing cubbies -- and I found the extra button for my jacket, yay! -- and making myself a proper meal. Then I sat down to watch 5 episodes of SYTYCD Canada, leaving just the last two for tomorrow night. I'm mostly happy with the top 4 (I wish the last girl eliminated had stayed instead of one of the others, but I like her too, so it's all right) and I think I can guess who's going to win -- or who has won, really, since it's been over for a while >_< We'll see if I'm right!

Please tell me who won when you finish because I missed the final episode. XD;;

And laundry is a good idea. *eyes my growing pile*

...Oooooh don't suppose I can borrow this book? :)? I am usually not a fan of "modern" literature(e.g. anything later than Nabokov) but I have heard really good things about that one.

Of course you can borrow it! And it'll take care of the "Where will I put this? My bookcase is already overflowing!" problem for at least a little while. XD
