Za Fainaru Mattchi Rikkai!

Last Friday I took a night bus to Nagoya, all in the name of sparkly tennis. Of course, I took the opportunity to kick around the city on Saturday, saw some of the sights, then met up with Sarah after she got off work. She took me to the most wondrous kaitenzushi place ever, where you can not only grab stuff off the conveyor belt, as usual, but you can order from a touch screen, and they send you your order on a second, special conveyor belt -- by shinkansen. God, it was amazing. God, I am easily amused. XDDD She also showed me Shinesman, which is this hilarious, obscure little OVA from ages ago about a team of sentai-wannabes who work at a - duh dah daaaaan! -- TRADING COMPANY! I would totally join their team. You think I could be Shinesman Periwinkle?! I would go perfectly with Moss Green and Salmon Pink! ^o^ Then on Sunday morning, she told me all about the "Two guys, one suit, OMG they're soul-bonding!" show that I'd missed because I was sleeping.
Now, I know you've all been waiting with bated breath for my thoughts on the newest chapter in the tenimyu saga, so here it is. Or rather, here are the notes that I took yesterday. Before you read this, though, know that after the first show I saw, I was rather disappointed by what seemed to be lackluster songs in general. However, after seeing it after they've been doing it for a while, the guys came across as much more relaxed, and their voices were much stronger. Overall, this show is more solid than I gave it credit for. And since they have ALL of Shitenhouji there, it can't help from being kind of awesome, right?
In bold: my notes from yesterday, taken IN THE DARK, during the show. I only wrote over a previous line once! Go me! This one had Shitenhouji B.
In italics: my notes from the first show I saw, on the second night of the Tokyo run -- these are much less copious, as Laura and I scrambled to write the memorable points down during the intermission and after it was over. This one was Shitenhouji A.
In regular text: explanations so that you might actually understand what I'm talking about. ^_____^
Pre-Show:
Konomi walked in, much squealing ensued: a collective squeal/gasp/titter swept over the room because Konomi himself had come to see the show. We couldn't see him at first, and were wondering who the hell could have caused such a reaction.
The Intro:
Sanada gets slapped around: Jackal taps, Niou slaps, Akaya lost (so can't), Yagyuu slaps, Marui winds up...: I think Sanada enjoyed this a bit too much. XD
Seigaku getting ready. 5th Tez scrawny
Momo on bike, F dancing w/ cactus, Kaidoh with bandana, Inui juice, Oishi being nervous, shoelaces: Inui taking a pull of his own juice and choking was funny, then there was Oishi worrying while he failed at tying his shoelaces, and Eiji being genki while not failing at tying his shoelaces.
Shitenhouji sings about the sugoi teams
Game time! Tezuka vs. Sanada:
All of Shitenhouji is there! Yay!
Eiji vs. Niou stare-off: while Sanada and Tezuka are busy with their little pissing contest, these two were glaring at each other. Liked it.
Echizen isn't there!
Atobe helicopter!!!: This was fantastic. There was actually a little helicopter above the stage! And the video cracked me up.
Oishitari randomly pops up: Only in the video, sadly.
Oshitari! <3: He's all, "OMG Atobe has a helicopter~~~! *squee*"
Tez & Momo's spindly legs = manga legs?!
Sanada wave, all fall down except Yuki cause he's speshul: I liked this song, and the wave motions made it that much better. ^.^
Oh no, Tez might lose! Kaidou loses all faith in humanity.
Oishi: "Tezuka, whyyyyy?"
Tezuka ファントム ! Okay, this song is pretty good.: Had totally forgotten about this song, but I like it quite a bit.
Rikkai = giant bumblebees
OMG, Tez's arm is purple!: Uh... someone said that, it wasn't really.
Kin-chan w/ chin on the bar = cute: While I loved having all those silly Osaka boys there, it was kind of distracting because I kept wanting to watch them while still watching the rest of the stage. XD
Oh, Oishi. Can't remember what this was about, but that's generally my reaction to him. Oh, Oishi. <3
Noes, Yuki is telling Sanada to lose!
油断せずに行こう! :)
Zaizen pretending he just doesn't care.
Tez is showing WAY too much emotion.
Old man Sanada hobbles off.
Match goes on, ends. Echizen reappears.
TOO much going on! Shiten telephone line (poor Koharu lost in the dark): this bit was brilliant. I think it was when it was revealed that Echizen had lost his memory? They didn't do it in Nagoya, boo. Anyway, the first Shiten guy to hear the news whispered it into the next guy's ear, and they formed a telephone line, only to break it off just as they got to Koharu, who was last. He pouted and stomped around, whining about how he didn't know what was going on. XD
OMG Echizen is polite haha
Echizen: "Sumimasen, please stop touching me." But Momo is so WORRIED!
Kin-chan has his heart broken for the first time. Aw, poor baby, Echizen has no memory of their magical flying times.
Doubles 2 -- Inui-Kaidou vs. Yanagi-Kirihara:
Data-men with their pet kouhai
God, Yanagi IS Spock!: or at least, he's Spock from the new Star Trek movie.
Inui keeps Kaidou on a tight leash.
Ooh, nobody hurts Inui on Kaidou's watch. It is ON!
HA, buttsex formation!: Yanagi and Kirihara totally stole the Silver Pair's trademark formation. XDDD
Watashi wa tori YOOOO! Glasses accepted! I can see! KAW! KAW! This was the best thing ever, and a Nagoya-only (for me) thing: after Kirihara's insane playing had broken Inui's glasses, Koharu jumped off the bleachers to offer his own megane to Inui. He launched himself off, flapping his arms, shouting, "私は鳥よおおおお!" Inui accepted the glasses (he didn't in Tokyo XD) and put them on, with a surprised, "あ、見える!" Then he gave them back, because he had spares. Lots of spares. Koharu fell to the ground, letting out a couple of sad-sounding "Kaw! Kaw!" noises. XDDD
Don't mind, senpai! Be my shadow: Kaidou sings abouthis love for Inui how he'll pick up the slack and protect his senpai.
Hanging tire of glowing purple light is to improve K's stamina. Sounds dirty. A little flashback to one of their "training sessions".
Akaya likes jumping high to flash us.
This is much better without stuffed-up sinuses. In Tokyo, I sat in the 3rd row... but I had a horrible head cold, and this one stupid spotlight kept blinding me, worsening my headache and causing my eyes to water for most of the show. Yesterday I was in the 15th row, my sinuses were clear, and there was no spotlight shining directly in my eyes! Except for at the end when Masa was in the aisle right by me, so I missed his "Oh god, it's one of those three again!" looks, which he must have given me while being backlit by the spotlight. XD
Niou realises Yagyuu and Kaidou have been trading tips! D: I guess because Kaidou did the laser beam?
Jesus above the courts speaks really bad English! Flashback to that foreign guy that Kirihara destroyed. I think the English was worse this time. XD
Akaya is insane hyperactive demon child: and Genki plays him SO WELL. He was damn creepy.
AWESOME Rikkai song!: Seriously, best song of the show.
Don't mind senpai, I will protect you from the evil (seaweed heads) of the world: as Inui got a tennis ball in the face for the 3094th time...
That's right, Kaidou, screaming "Inui-senpai!" in his ear is very useful.
Haha, Yuki gets organ music. Nice voice, though.
Ok, THIS is Rikkai! Much better energy and stronger voices this time. So in Tokyo, Rikkai just didn't seem like Rikkai. Where was the menace, the badassery? Kirihara's song excepted, of course. Anyway, they found their mojo in Nagoya, and sounded waaaaaay better.
~And lo, there was an intermission~
Kenya sells soumen from a 四天宝寺 box! Synchro! XD Shiraishi up on balcony doing synchro on his own! *rofl* This ad-libbing bit was really funny in Nagoya, and involved Kenya and Gin failing at synchro while Shiraishi totally p0wned them doing it by himself. In Tokyo, I had a really hard time making out what they were saying, (I was on the opposite side of the theatre) so I don't remember what they did. This time they were right by me, too bad I couldn't grab the bowl of "soumen" Kenya was offering us!
Why does Gin rub Yuuji's ass with his racquet? A question for the ages...
Callypso beat! Okay, I don't know if this was actually a callypso beat, but close enough. As usual, Shitenhouji got the Best Song Evar (almost as good as "Shitenhouho-ho-ji"!).
Shiraishi shakes his ass in Zaizen's face.
Shiten has 4 lefties. Am I the only one keeping track of these things? In my family, my mum and B2 are lefties, but I believe that's a higher percentage than average in the general population. There seem to be a lot of lefties in the PoT universe...
Inui's dream... or is it Fuji's?! Disturbing imagery, including Kirihara as the demon spawn he is.
Kaidou at Inui's bedside to comfort him in his hour of mumminess. THEY DID THE BANDAGES! *dies* Love how Kaidou can't quite bring himself to look right at Inui. XD
Shitenhouji rules all: Pinchi! Pinchi! Pinchi!
Really like ShitenB ensemble. Individually, I prefer A cast (especially Shiraishi!), but I love B cast together, they seem more coherent.
"Mada mada desu" FAIL Haha, Echizen came back with manners!
"I'm trying so hard, thank you!" *rofl* Laura and I laughed SO HARD at this. XDDDD
Ichinen body rub on Echizen. Yeah, uh... *wince* Don't know what the hell that was about.
Shiten does Baryshnikov turns! :O There's surely another name for those turning leaps, but I can't think of it at the moment. The guys didn't do them too badly! *misses doing those, they're fun*
Sanada: "Niou, ARE YOU LISTENING?" XD
Fuji vs. Niou/Tezuka/Shiraishi:
Woo, Niou emits smoke! He's magical! Henshin!
Fuji is a fashion model! I can't help it, that hand-on-cocked-hip-other-arm-raised pose was too funny.
So funny how well Masa does Niou, because we KNOW what he's really like! (Wine?) It's true...
Flashback to the Day of Their Promise: Tezuka's and Fuji's, that is.
Who is playing mini!Fuji and baby!Tez? Katsuo and Kachiro?
Fuji is a pretty ballerina.
But he still can't count. Unless someone told him "triple" means a number equal to or greater than 3 and somewhat less than 50. XD
Fuji has shiny hair.
Niou writhing around on ground = kinda hot. ^________^
Niou as Shiraishi gets techno music! No gay disco outfit, sadly.
Oh Masa, I'd watch a musical about Niou just for you. <3 Ecstasy indeed! <3
Didn't remember this song being so good. But then, Masa makes everything better.
Mummy!Inui: Kaidou, y u turn ur back on me?! Because you're a goddamn mummy? XD
Niou is a puppet master! This bit had some pretty cool dancing. Go Masa!
SPARKLES fall from the sky when Fuji does his 568th counter.
Masa OWNED the stage.
Echizen almost as tall as Momo. And is it just me, or are all the ichinensei getting taller? They're pretty much all the same height, and I don't think they used to be... Like anybody cares about them. XD
Oishi-Kikumaru vs. Marui-Jackal:
Golden Pair! Aw, special pre-match moment.
Eiji is bouncy. Like, really, really bouncy. He needn't grin quite so much, though.
New Marui has lots of teeth and is a GIRL! kinda like anime Gakuto, totally girly until he opens his mouth. Also, his skin is white. Like, seriously milky white.
That's right, Momo, pelt him with balls until he remembers. @.@
Momo: Damnit, YOU WILL REMEMBER! Please call me Momo-chan-senpai again! *cry* Wow, Echizen's breaking hearts all over...
Haha, only Tez, Fuji and Taka left on bench. Poor Golden Pair, everyone else has gone off to be mummies or try to get Echizen's brattiness back.
Oishi's voice should not be so high! That was Tokyo -- in Nagoya, for some reason, Kikumaru sounded really bad during this song. He was okay for the rest of the show though, so what gives?
Oh god, it's the twinkly remix of sparkly GP love. For some reason, it didn't seem quite as twinkly the second time 'round... at least not so twinkly that it belonged on a Sailor Moon soundtrack. *shot*
Why bring back cheesy songs?! Will someone please give the Golden Pair a good song? I mean, "Synchro" was cool and all, but they didn't sing it...
Let's pause to lean against each other and sing about how our dreams are the same, and for Eiji to gaze up adoringly at Oishi. Marui and Jackal standing around/dancing like, "OMG, can't take the キラキララブラブ DX"
Sanada off to be manly, BRB. Haha, he's actually off to help Echizen regain his memories... What, he's going to slap them back into him? XD
Oishi between Eiji's legs. Happiest place on earth? XD Yeah, they actually did it. XD;;;
The End:
Everyone: Oh noes, Echizen still hasn't regained his memories! Momo is taking this really hard.
Mummy!Inui is ALWAYS appropriate! You know he is.
Shiten wins at life, the universe, and everything. <3
28 guys on stage!
Fuji handspring!
Taka is damn tall.
And that's all, folks. Overall, I was very pleased by the Nagoya show, as it was better all around. Stronger singing (especially from Rikkai!), better interplay, much more settled. I didn't get all the stares from the stage I got in Tokyo (prolonged eye-contact with Masa, for instance, and a hilarious double-take by Shiraishi when he was taking his bow), but I got them when the boys ran down the aisles.
I must admit I'm curious to see the Rikkai support cast, but... but it doesn't include Masa! *waaah* I'd say that new Yagyuu isn't as pretty as Baba, but who cares, he barely does anything this show anyway. XD
Now, I know you've all been waiting with bated breath for my thoughts on the newest chapter in the tenimyu saga, so here it is. Or rather, here are the notes that I took yesterday. Are we still up for a little boardgame making time this friday? <3

Date: 2009-09-08 11:49 am (UTC)I must say, it improved upon a second viewing. I didn't really get why they felt the need to remake some of the songs -- I mean, yeah, it's Rikkai 2.0, but they didn't do that for Hyoutei...
