SYTYCD, episodes 16 & 17
Cat Deeley in my very favourite colour ever*? Yes, please! :D
There are only 10 contestants left, the votes are for individuals (as opposed to couples), and from now on the pairings will be new and random every week! Let the hilariously mismatched physical pairings begin!
Bollywood number with all five girls! Incredible energy, they looked gorgeous, it was all there. WAAAY more fun than the Bollywood number earlier in the season, I thought. The timing was impecable, and it was wonderful to watch.
Kayla & Evan (Viennese waltz): That is one gorgeous dress, right there. And aww, they had to put Evan in heels and Kayla went barefoot, but it worked! Lovely lifts, but there seemed to be some moments that just stalled, that could have flowed better.
Brandon (solo): Okay, I guess, but it just seemed like a lot of flailing around. Extremely well controled flailing, but still.
Janette & Ade (hip hop): That was really funny. ^__^ Janette is hot, as I believe I'd pointed out. It's funny, I'd never noticed how small she is and how tall Ade is before they danced together.
Randi (solo): She's just too adorable, but that dress wasn't quite as adorable. No need for the pointless neck ruffle!
Kupono (solo): Yay, a solo that isn't just a series of jumps and développés! Fun and quirky.
Jeanine & Jason (contemporary): *fans self and picks jaw off the floor* That was... *fans self again* God, Travis (from season 2), why haven't they brought you in to choreograph before??? Gorgeous and sexy. *watches a second time* Yup, just as good the second time 'round, and their synchronisation was perfect. Mmmm, clothes ripping and tenderness. *___*
Melissa (solo): I love that she dons her toe shoes every time she gets a chance. Pretty!
Evan (solo): I also love that this guy, with the smooth old Hollywood style, has gotten this far. Great solo!
Kayla (solo): While I can't deny that technically, she's excellent, and that she beautiful and endearing, I can't help but feel that she lacks the depth some of the older dancers have. Nothing she won't develop, given a couple of years, of course.
Randi & Kupono (paso doble): This started out strong, but kind of fizzled. Not a strong performance, and why was Randi wearing a wig? Nigel's comments lead me to believe that the dancers choose their own costumes... is that so? I always assumed there were stylists who made those decisions. Huh, Kupono has chest hair.
Ade (solo): Can we just name Ade "Ideal Male Form" and get it over with? Cat just loooooves to touch him. XD And once again, proof that the laws of gravity mean nothing to him.
Jeanine (solo): Woohoo, another strong, sexy woman! Those jumps were an amazing example of control and how to land without resorting to rolling on the floor.
Jason (solo): Nice, a solo with actual personality and comedy! And lovely dancing, of course. This guy always nails it.
Melissa & Brandon (Broadway): They danced well, but I'm not that fond of "The Age of Aquarius" , and the whole hippies on Broadway thing... The judges are old enough to love it, though. XD
Janette (solo): Y u so sexy? *o*
The five guys got an African dance, and you have to feel for poor Evan, who's as white as they come. XD I'm impressed by their stamina, because that routine was jumping non-stop. Cat clearly has no problem being surrounded by hot, sweaty, half-naked guys, and the audience would clearly kill to be in her shoes. XD
I don't really feel like predicting who will be out, but I suppose I must. Er... personally, I would send home Kupono and Kayla, but I'm afraid Randi and Evan are in more danger of not getting enough votes.
Cat is in sparkly sequined armour. O_O The slightly puffed-out hair doesn't work with the huge shoulders on that dress, though.
Cool opening number, I must say, though what the East-Asian costumes (not Japanese, but not quite Chinese! @_@) have to do with a Janet Jackson song, I haven't any idea.
Bloh, I hate it when they drag out results show. Half an hour would be plenty, but no, it's a full hour. Luckily, since I download these episodes TOTALLY LEGALLY, there are no commercials!
Janette is safe (duh), but as I feared, Randi is in the bottom two girls. The other one is Melissa. Boo!
And the two guys with the fewest votes are -- WHAT THE HELL IS KUPONO WEARING??? Seriously, he's got pompoms and bobbles hanging from his belt! You should have asked Tim Gunn for a critique, Kupono, I'm sure the words "I'm concerned" would have been employed. XD;
Ahem. So the two guys in the bottom two are Kupono and Ade. ADE? The HELL??? No way, he's way better than Brandon! Better-looking, too. XD
Of these 4, I'd keep Randi (who looks great in that shade of blue) and Ade, obviously.
The public, however, preferred Melissa, though they agreed with me that Ade deserved to stay. Haha, Cat can't stop rubbing Kupono's fuzzy head. Oh, Cat. XDDD
* Emerald green, that is.
And now for some more Chinese tennis boys! :D
The Golden Pair love, of course! <3 As I care about any other kind. *shameless*
Poor Ju Wan, he gets keeps screwing up, or getting screwed over. Now he's been accused of cheating on the English test he was actually prepared for! Good thing Da Shi believes in him no matter what. *wibbles* I love how the rest of the team sort of hesitated before joining them on the court, like, "Should we interrupted their private moment?" XD
The whole bit of him with the sign in the cafeteria, then the team joining him to go around asking for the other students' support, was very interesting from a cultural point of view.
What's the deal with the little "notebook" segments at the end of each episode? The first one was some sort of poetry parody, I think, and this one was Ju Wan, Da Shi, Zhen Zhi and Guo Guang (that's Eiji, Oishi, Inui and Tezuka, for those of you not paying attention) playing a prank on Hai Tang. It was pretty hilarious, though. Seriously, Ju Wan, who sleeps like that? *rofl*
This episode was mostly about Ju Wan, which I have no problem with, since the actor is hilarious. I definitely approve of the new haircut! Da Shi, on the other hand, is looking a bit shaggy. I love their matching magenta shirts.
Speaking of hair, this episode afforded us a glimpse of the back of Chun Long's head, and... words fail me. It actually looks like the rear end of a duck! Dude, no. Just, NO. Someone (Zhen Zhi? Da Shi?), take the gel away from Chun Long and Cheng Wu before they hurt themselves. Please. x___x;;;
So far, I don't really like the new Xiao Ying/Sakuno that much. She's not a bad actress per se, but I thought the other one did a really good job of being quiet and unsure of herself, yet still strong. This one looks too conventionally pretty, too made up, too trendy for me to really believe she's the same character.
