A Very Long Alphabet

Because apparently, having an apartment to clean and a semi-defrosted leg of lamb sitting on the counter that I need to learn how to cook are not pressing enough matters to occupy my time. So have my answers to that meme.

A

- Available: for psychic readings. And dates, I suppose. If I find the time.

- Age: 28

- Annoyance: Bad weather on a day I really need to do laundry. Running out of shampoo and forgetting to buy more. Misplacing things, because it doesn't happen that often.

- Allergic: to chalk dust. And certain kinds of pollen, if my stuffed up nose (after a day spent hanami-ing) is any indication.

- Animal: KITTEH! She's currently warming my lap. <3

- Actor: Honestly, there's never been any one actor or actress who I've cared enough about that I've made a point of following their career.

B

- Beer: I can drink the Japanese stuff now, because it's so pale, but I'm determined to drink some of the proper stuff when in the Czech Republic and Germany next month. Maybe I'll like it better this time? ^_^;

- Birthday/Birthplace: 17th of August, in northern Ontario. No, more north than that. Even norther. Sudbury was "Down South" to us. Yeah, it has a funny name.

- Best Friends: I count my friends among my greatest blessings. I've made many wonderful new ones in Japan, but A-L and M-P will always be my sisters of the heart, no matter how far apart we live and how seldom we speak to each other. Love you girls!

- Body Part on opposite sex: I have a weakness for [tall Chinese guys with] nice hands. On women, I like... everything. I like looking at girls. But more specifically, the back, from neck to hips. And legs. And breasts.

- Best feeling in the world: Travelling to a new place, and seeing a beautiful new vista for the first time.

- Blind or Deaf: Neither. If one were inevitable, I'd rather be deaf than blind, because colours are very important to me, as are books.

- Best weather: ...I'd answer this differently each season. But generally, warm and sunny with some wind -- a perfect day to hang the laundry outside.

- Been in Love: Yes. I miss feeling that way, sometimes...

- Been bitched out? In secondary school, by the principal. That's the only time I've ever had someone yell at me without any respect at all. Okay, there was that hotel owner in Greece, but I couldn't understand anything he was saying. XD;

- Been on stage?: Ballet recitals.

- Believe in yourself?: Yes.

- Believe in life on other planets: If it happened here, it must have happened somewhere else at some point. And if not yet, then it will eventually.

- Believe in miracles: Yes.

- Believe in Magic: Magic: The Gathering? Spent a lot of money on it, so yes.

- Believe in God: I believe in something greater than the individual, and I believe in humanity; even though we manage to screw up spectacularly, we're also capable of great beauty.

- Believe in Satan: I don't subscribe to the Christian concept of evil.

- Believe in Santa: I believe in the spirit of generosity.

- Believe in Ghosts/spirits: Yes, and I'd like to see/hear/feel one someday.

- Believe in Evolution: It is a fact of life, whether people believe in it or not.

C

- Car: Whatever Nippon Rent-a-Car lets me use.

- Candy: Is nice once in a while. I like jelly beans or gummies on occasion, but I rarely, if ever, buy them for myself.

- Colour: Green. (Shocking!) Also turquoise, raspberry red, bright colours in general, and anything that is not brown/beige/cream.

- Cried in school: Sure. Most famously (?) in secondary 5 when we watched The Mission in history class and I couldn't stop sobbing for at least a quarter of an hour.

- Chocolate/Vanilla: Vanilla, if it's ice cream. Otherwise, I usually don't have a strong preference.

- Chinese/Mexican: Chinese all the way, baby! Mapo tofu, chicken rice, hotpot, hagao... take me now! *___*

- Cake or pie: PIE! Pretty much any kind, and I'll eat all the crust, too! :D Not to say I don't appreciate a good cake, of course.

- Countries to visit: Korea and China are go for this summer! Also on my list are Egypt, Turkey, Singapore, Thailand, Mongolia, Spain, Denmark, Laos, New Zealand, the U.K. and Russia (as long as Eda comes with me ^_~).

D

- Day or Night: Even though I'm only very rarely up at that hour, I love the sunrise. But sunsets are also beautiful, as is a starry sky. I am bi on this issue (as in lots of other areas).

- Dream vehicle: My own train that would magically take me anywhere I wanted to go, by any route I wanted to take.

- Danced: 13 years and a bit of ballet back in Canada, and ballet again in Tokyo since January. A few years of tap and some jazz, and a tiny bit of salsa and social dance sprinkled in here and there.

- Dance in the rain?: I have this great memory of running and dancing through a warm summer rainstorm with A-L when we were about 14 or so.

- Dance in the middle of the street?: Lots of times! :D

- Do the splits?: A few times in my life. I haven't got much natural flexibility, but with Inui-sensei's stretching exercises, I hope to once again accomplish this feat.

E

- Eggs: come on nearly everything in family restaurants.

- Eyes: Mine are bluish-greyish with some greenish. I wish they were greener.

- Everyone has: potential.

- Ever failed a class?: I failed one semester of secondary 4 science (I think I got 56%, so it wasn't too bad), mostly because of the lousy teacher and because I couldn't be bothered. I ended the year with an average of at least 70%, though.

F

- First crush: Honestly, I can't really remember any real childhood crush, but my first adolescent crush was on the guy who became my first boyfriend a couple of years later. (No, I didn't have a crush on him the whole time in between).

- Full name: My last name's too uncommon to want to share it here. As is my first name, come to think of it. XD But my middle name is Roxane. Initials M.-A. R. L.

- First thoughts waking up: "What time is it?"

- Food: is awesome. I love it.

G

- Greatest Fear: Putting my all into something and come to realise that it wasn't worth it.

- Goals: To see lots of interesting places, to be a better person, to brighten someone's day.

- Gum: Glamatic, any flavour.

- Get along with your parents?: Yes, I quite enjoy their company, and I think they're pretty cool people in general.

- Good luck charms: Not as such, though nowadays I always carry the compass my father gave me in my bag.

H

- Hair Colour: Dirty blonde. Now with pale highlights!

- Height: 162cm, I believe. Just shy of 5'4"

- Happy: I'm generally a happy person.

- How do you want to die: Like most people, I'm guessing, I'd like it to be as painless as possible.

- Health freak?: Haha, not at all. But I try to balance things out, and I do get regular exercise. Getting a decent amount of sleep is a work in progress.

- Hate: takes an awful lot of energy.

I

(In guys/girls)

- Eye colour: I don't really care, but something different from mine is more interesting.

- Hair Colour: See above.

- Height: It doesn't matter for a girl, but it would be strange to be with a guy shorter than I am, since I'm not very tall.

- Clothing Style: Something that reflects their personality. And more of a style than, "These were the first clothes I found in my size and I couldn't be bothered to look any further."

- Characteristics: Honest, loyal, open-minded, has lots of different interests, doesn't take things too seriously (except the really serious things, of course), is able to laugh at her/himself, likes to experience new things, can speak at least 2 languages (or is learning a second one), doesn't keep things bottled up inside until they go sour.

- Ice Cream: is yummy.

- Instrument: I taught myself a couple of pieces on the piano, but I never took formal lessons; I chose dance instead.

J

- Jewelry: I have an impressive collection of earrings. Also of necklaces, though I don't wear them as much as I used to. I usually dislike wearing rings, and bracelets tend to fall off because my hands and wrists are very dainty.

- Job: Preschool teacher.

K

- Kids: I love working with them, and might like to have a couple of my own someday, if I find the right person to be a parent with.

- Kickboxing or karate: Cardio kickboxing is fun.

- Keep a journal?: This one, obviously. I used to keep a written diary, between the ages of 11 and 14, and I always keep a journal when I travel.

L

- Longest Car Ride: HAMAMATSU TO YOSANO. XD;;; Or possibly the day that my family drove across all of Nebraska ("Look! More corn!"). We travelled all over North America by car, though, so I've spent countless hours watching the countryside roll by.

- Love: is a warm and fuzzy feeling.

- Letter: is not a verb.

- Laughed so hard you cried: Way more times than I can count.

- Love at first sight: I don't see how that's possibly, really.

M

- Milk flavour: Anything less than 2% is just so much water.

- Movie: My favourites are The Lord of the Rings, The Princess Bride, Yi Yi, Mononoke Hime and The Company.

- Mooned anyone?: Not that I'm aware of.

- Marriage: Been there, done that.

- Motion sickness?: Only if I try to read in a car.

- McD's or BK: Freshness Burger. If I must, McDonald's for their cheap milkshakes.

N

- Number of Siblings: Two younger brothers.

- Number of Piercings: Six (three in each earlobe).

- Number: 17

O

- Overused Phrases: When I realise I have one, I try to use it less, and there's nothing that comes to mind at the moment. Can you think of any?

- One wish: For my family and friends to be happy.

- One phobia: I don't have a true phobia. Cockroaches and centipedes gross me out, but they don't scare me.

P

- Place you'd like to live: I like where I am just fine, but other than that, Vancouver. Or maybe Hong Kong.

- Pepsi/Coke: I've never cared much for either. Fanta comes in lots of exciting flavours! :D

Q

- Quail: eggs are tasty.

- Questionnaires: sometimes take ages to fill out.

R

- Reason to cry: Betrayal; exhaustion combined with hunger; a heartbreaking passage in a book; something sad in a movie; being overwhelmed by the beauty of nature.

- Reality T.V.: Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance and America's Next Top Model (though I haven't kept up with it in a while).

- Radio Station: None. Back home, I listened to CBC.

- Roll your tongue in a circle?: Maybe later.

S

- Song: "Alexandra Leaving" (Leonard Cohen)

- Shoe size: 23.5/36/6.7 or 7

- Sushi: Yes, please! ^.^

- Skipped school: Never until cegep, and even then only occasionally.

- Slept outside: I've slept in tents all over Canada and the U.S., and I've napped in public places all over the world.

- Seen a dead body?: Not of a human being, except in pictures or on film.

- Smoked?: Pot, yes; cigarettes, never.

- Skinny dipped?: The general concensus seems to be that going to the onsen doesn't count. By that standard, I suppose going to a clothing-optional beach doesn't count either, nor does going topless on the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria.

- Shower daily?: Every morning, unless I'm running really really late and don't smell too bad, or if I go to an onsen.

- Sing well?: I like to think I can carry a tune most of the time. I enjoy singing, and don't really care that I don't have a great voice.

- In the shower?: I wash myself. When I lived in my parents' house, I used to make mental lists of the songs I'd sing in the shower. Since I've been living in apartments with thin walls, I don't do much more than hum to myself. I sing in the kitchen.

- Swear?: No. Not unless I really, really mean it.

- Stuffed Animals?: Basil the gay Carebear lives in my closet.

- Single/Group dates: I have very little dating experience, so I'm not sure.

- Strawberries/Blueberries: Berries are Mother Nature's own brand of candy. WHY MUST I CHOOSE?!

- Scientists need to invent: a way to stretch time out so that vacations aren't over so quickly.

T

- Time for bed: Too late. -__-;

- Thunderstorms: I like them! :D

- Touch your tongue to your nose?: Never.

U

- Unpredictable: I don't think I am, but maybe others think differently on occasion? In terms of my reactions, I think not.

- Under the influence?: It's been known to happen.

- Understanding?: I'd like to be. I'm afraid I fail at it much of the time.

V

- Vegetable you hate: The last holdover from a childhood of being a picky eater was asparagus, but I think we've resolved our differences. All it took was a corn-asparagus-mayo pizza!

- Vegetable you love: Chinese broccoli, pea shoots, fiddlehead greens. Recently, I realised just how tasty Chinese cabbage is.

- Vacation spot: Somewhere with history and/or interesting vistas, and good food.

W

- Weakness: KitKats. You make the flavour, I will eat it.

- When you grow up: I stopped growing when I was 14.

- Which one of your friends acts the most like you: I think most of my close friends are different enough from me that we balance each other out. For any similarities, I could think of several bigger differences. *is not good at these types of questions*

- Who makes you laugh the most: A-L (caroub!) and M-P (bille dans le nez!) win by default, but it's kind of unfair because they've been a part of my life for so long. Most recently, Eda caused my ribs to ache well into the next day from laughter.

- Worst feeling: Realising that although you tried your hardest, it wasn't enough, and that things are beyond repair.

- Wanted to be a model?: I knew I'd never be tall enough. Being a hair model would have been fun.

- Where do we go when we die: I'll let you know if I ever find out.

- Worst weather: Cold and rainy and windy, on a day you have to walk outside for any length of time.

- Walk with a book on your head?: I could if I wanted to.

X

- X-Rays: My teeth (several times), and most recently my chest.

Y

-Year it is now: 2010

-Yellow: submarine. We all live in one.

Z

- Zoo animal: Gentle lemurs! *dies of cute*

- Zodiac sign: Leo

That's all, folks! When I wake up tomorrow, all the stuff I should have done tonight will have been done by my house elves. Yes.
