Can one go into cheese withdrawal, I wonder?

So for the past three nights, I've gone to bed between 11:40 and midnight, and each night I've woken up at exactly 0:40. And I don't know why.

I got an email from my aunt this morning, regarding my posts about Vienna: Your pix are great! I just find it hilarious that my 67-year-old aunt actually typed "pix". XDDD

And now for the story of the reasons behind my brief life sans internet, in case you cared. ^.^

Last month, I got a letter from my ISP, OCN. It wasn't the monthly bill, and it was on a simple sheet of A4 paper (i.e. not a special promotion of campaign or anything), so I figured it might be important, but it was late and I was tired when I got home, so I set it aside for later perusal. And totally forgot about it.

Cut to last Wednesday, when I got home from Europe, taught my afternoon lessons, then got home and turned on the computer. No connection. Okay... I was too tired to deal with it, so I went to bed.

The next day, still no internet. When I got home after my ballet class, I tried reinstalling the connection software, to no avail. This is actually trickier than you'd think, because for some reason my English-language OS and the software don't mesh, and everything appears as gibberish, so I have to guess at what I'm clicking.

Friday, after another ballet class, I tried again, but it still wasn't working. I did the connectivity test, found that the actual connection wasn't the problem, and that the gibberish error message I was getting was "Incorrect user name and/or password", so I called the customer support line. It was too late to get anything other than technical support, so they told me to call back the next day between 9 and 9.

Saturday I was out and about most of the day, but got home around 7 to call customer support. The helpful woman I talked to asked me if I'd received a letter from OCN, dated April 22nd. "Letter?" I couldn't for the life of me remember any letter. She said I'd exceeded my upload limit and they'd sent me a warning letter, assuming I was sending massive amounts of spam, and that they'd asked me to contact them by the 8th, otherwise my account would be blocked. "You can call them between 9 and 5. But they have a very high call volume, so please... ganbatte kudasai."

Right. As soon as I hung up, I dug through my papers and found the letter, and now that I was rested and not stressed out about a thousand and one things, I could indeed make out enough to understand the situation.

Sunday morning, I was punching in the number at 8:59. I was on hold for less than ten minutes, which seems pretty good to me. The guy explained the situation, I said "Wakarimashita" a lot, assured him I was not spamming people but that I'd forgotten to exit Bittorrent (indeed, the day I'd exceeded the upload limit was one of the only days I've spent at home in the past few months). Perhaps if I'd been Japanese, I'd have been more apologetic. The word meiwaku was used a couple of times. Still, the man was nice, and I liked that the one time I asked him to "Mou ichido onegaishimasu" he rephrased what he'd said, instead of simply repeating it.

All that to say that yesterday, when I arrived home after work, I had a connection!

The end.

In other news, I've got the travel bug, and I've got it bad. Sunday, Emily and I met up for our first strategic planning session of our Assault on China*, and there was much poring over the map, much discussion about means of transportation, and pondering what we were going to eat. In China, not at the restaurant.

Today I went to a travel agency to look into tickets, and we are nearly booked! I go back tomorrow to pay for them. And then I get to go crazy looking for info about travelling in China! :D

Also coming up is my blink-and-you'll-miss-it trip to Korea with Eda, which will be very, very exciting. And spicy. And hopefully full of fabulous, cheap shoes. :DDD Damn, I have to get in gear to keep my promises to Haengbok-sshi, or Eda's gonna make me some more Inui juice! D:

All right, bed time!

I'm feeling way too chipper about everything. ^_^;

* We need an official name for our trip. Journey to the West would be appropriate, no? XD

But it's so hard to STOOOOOOP! DX

Funny (to me) story: a few weeks ago I'd never heard of this guy, and Kimberly asked me if I knew who Justin Bieber was. *mishearing it as "Justin Beaver"* "Who?" "He's a Canadian singer." I sat there thinking, "If that name is on purpose, that's the lamest thing I've ever heard. If it isn't, he should have changed it!"

KOREA! YAAAAAH!

Well, it's 30GB per day, so that's quite a lot, but I was seeding a lot of torrents. ^_^;;;

Oh my, that is a lot to go past! Those must have been some popular torrents! Though I don't agree with limits :3

As in, "What can you see on the horizon?? Why do the har gao call?"

Except it might have to be "Journey To The West Which Is Usually Called The East But We're Living In Japan."

Obviously, I won't be able to pay you back for the ticket until June...but I'll do so ASAP after that. *nod*

(OMG China!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do we need any shots before we go?......)

I totally didn't think of that at all! XDDD. I was thinking of the classical Chinese story with the Monkey King (not Atobe). ^_^

Not sure about shots. I've got my hepatitis A and B vaccinations done, as well as the other regular stuff... I was thinking it would be good to bring along bug spray that has deet in it. I don't know if you can get that in Japan, maybe you could pick some up in the U.S.?

What can you see on the horizon?
Why do the har gao call?
Across the sea hotpot steam rises
The night train comes to carry me off
Into the west...
