[ETA: One more picture, which I forgot to include.]

When I manage to get to bed at a reasonable hour, it's a chore to drag myself out of it as early as I'd like. And then when I let myself go to bed later, planning on sleeping in, I'm wide awake at 6:20 and am unable to fall asleep again. Sigh.

Perhaps I shouldn't complain, because the reason I couldn't get back to sleep (in spite of Tabitha being warm and purry beside me) is because after yesterday, my brain is fired up and unable to stop.

I know I keep saying, "I'll post about this next time," and I really mean to, but oftentimes I don't, or it gets delayed indefinitely. Perhaps it's because I feel I don't want to be spammy and post long entries about stuff that others might not be interested in. I figure if I only post long entries once in a while, there's more chance they'll be read. ^_^; Anyway, I really want to write about creativity, and the whole creative process, because after a good creative week, yesterday was almost too much for my little mind to handle. Or maybe it was all the fabric fumes*. At any rate, Kimberly and Jamie are both very creative in very different ways, and it was a joy to spend the day bouncing ideas off other people, making stuff, talking about making stuff, and sort of casually brainstorming.

But first, as promised, pictures**! For pictures of Tabitha, my completed dress, my not-yet-completed dress, and miniature fruit, it's this-a-way:

I've been pretty consistent with my Mandarin studies. Tabitha, of course, does her best to be helpful true to her feline instincts, i.e. sit on whatever I'm trying to work on.

Photobucket

Good thing she makes up for it by amusing me!

When I set up the ironing board so Kimberly could use it, Tabitha immediately offered to hold the fabric in place.

Photobucket

Helpful kitty is helpful!

But how could we stay annoyed at such a face?

Photobucket

Aaaaaand, the dress! (The dress Brunhilde's wearing is much nearer completion now, as I attached the bottom ruffle and have only to add straps, a zipper, lace under the bust, and sequins. Sequins! 8D) Thanks to Jamie for taking the pictures.

(Tabitha didn't actually want to be in the picture, she was just trying to investigate the OMG!closed door.)

I'm very sad to say that I've outgrown -- er, outshrunk Brunhilde. Yes, my dressform is bustier and hippier than I am, now. @_@ So when I complete my sewing sticker sheet, my reward will be a new dressform in my actual size. Or as close as I can get.

I had three metres of that checked fabric. Here's all that was left over (box of Kraft Dinner -- except it doesn't say Kraft Dinner because it's a weird American box -- shown for scale):

A view of the chest:

Isn't that trim adorable? A few years ago I bought a grab bag of trim remnants solely for that piece. There was other cool stuff in it, too, but this was the piece I wanted. I'm glad I finally got to put it to good use! I even have enough left over for another project.

Last, but not least, fruit! Jamie was working on a clay project, and I needed a break from sewing, so I tried my hand at making small clay objects. Not bad! I missed my calling, I should have been a designer of pointless miniature fruit. :3 Hmm, they'd look better painted, wouldn't they... (Pin cushion shown for scale.)

Photobucket

Can you identify them all? XD

That's it for now, folks. I swear, within the week I will write about:

- Tenimyu
- creativity
- a really cool izakaya I went to in April
- OMG I'm going to Korea for a day! :D

* I'm somewhat allergic to the chemicals that are used at the end of the fabric-making process, which is one of the reasons I always wash my fabric before using it. Something that I've been working with must not have been washed, because I'm feeling distinctly asthmatic, which only happens when I'm with Siamese cats, or using fabric that's still factory-fresh. And I know it's not the damp, because even though it's been grey and drizzly, the air isn't damp enough to make my hair start to curl.

** And this is where I visit my Photobucket account and see that, hey, there are pictures and video I uploaded over a month ago that still haven't been shared with the world! -___-;

Banana, Mango, Apple, Pear, Grapes, Khaki? Or Mangosteen?

I'm allergic to pesticides they use on fruit so I cannot eat some kinds of fruit usually (but it's hit and miss ~_~)

the dresses look fabulous!

Yes, yes, yes, yes, no (it's supposed to be a raspberry, but it's obviously not to scale XD), YES (to persimmon)! Jamie kept calling it a tomato... ;__;

Thank you, I really put a lot of work into it! ^_^

oh right persimmon it was called... *failure*

aw...it's fruit! how can it be a tomato! tomatoes have different leaf shapes o: !!

as I already said, I really admire people who can sew and to crafts like this because I absolutely and totally fail at it... it must feel amazing too to be able to wear what you made yourself :D

Hey, "Jo Kwon" counts, right? *shot* XDDD

m(_ _)m

Actually, those are the pictures that have been sitting around in Photobucket for the past month. I swear, I scanned them as soon as I got home that night! Or actually, probably the next day, as I don't think I was capable of higher brain function at that point. ^_^

Banana! Mango! Apple! Kaki! Pear! steroid!raspberry!?

The dress is lovely! ♥ And the trim is very very cute!

6/6 = big sticker for you! :D And yeah, steroid raspberry is an apt description. I made the mango first (actually I was just rolling the clay around in my hand and, "Hey! I accidentally made a mango! :D"), then the sad banana, then the mutant raspberry happened. It unfortunately got squished as I added more drooplets -- wth, the spell checkers claims "drooplet" is not a word! D:

Thank you! ^_^

The dress looks cute! (Did you use a Japanese pattern for it?) I have to say, I am very jeaous of all the interesting and cute fabrics you have in Japan. When I went to a fabric store last August in Osaka, I went nuts! (And then had to restrain myself from buying even more than I did ;)

Thanks! No, no pattern, I just measured on myself and draped it, with a bit of help from Brunhilde. Not too hard, since it's mostly rectangles. The unfinished dress required a bit more skill, though.

I know, it's dangerous to go into fabric stores. Hands down the best one is Tomato, in Nippori. I guess it's a good thing it's out of the way for me! ^_^;;; I used to live within walking distance, and yeah... my fabric stash speaks for itself. XD;

Both dresses look great! I can't wait to see the second one in its finished state and the ribbon on the completed one is amazing. *__*

And obligatory Tabitha praising! She's still such a cutie. And so helpful!

Thank you! ^_^ I hope I'll be able to finish the second one within the next few days, so I can wear it in Korea! :D

Oh yes, so INCREDIBLY helpful. *rolls eyes* XD

Yay, photos! Tabitha looks gorgeous, as always, and I'm amused that the whole Cats Lie On Anything You're Trying To Read/Work With tradition continues.

I love both the dresses and you look adorable in the check one. The trim is sweet :3 As for the fruit... apple, banana, mikan, pear, grapes aaaaand... I dunno. Mango? Guava? Pebble? XD;;

*hugs* I am quite happy to read long posts. I always enjoy your photo updates, but words are good too :3 Also, I'd like to read your thoughts on creativity!

They're just programmed that way, there's nothing that can be done about it.

Thank you. ^_^

Apple, banana, mikan persimmon, pear, grapes mutant raspberry, mango.

PEBBLE?! TT_____TT

Well, in my defense, mangos are stone-shaped! And so, scaled down, pebble-shaped.

...please don't hurt me? XD;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

And, huh, yes, raspberry. But I've never seen a persimmon in my life, so I wasn't going to get that one XD;

No, I was just thinking "I fail at art? DX"

You never saw these (http://oaklandgardenkitchen.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/fuyu-persimmons.jpg) in Japan? Or do you call them by another name?

From: [identity profile] tayles.livejournal.com
You don't fail at art! Mangos are just vaguely rock-shaped! When, you know, not coloured like mangos...

Hmm, nope, don't think I did. Or if I did, I possibly assumed they were unripe tomatoes XD;;;;;;;;;;;; I've never had a persimmon in my life.
