Friiiiiiiday
Wow, I really needed those drinks. *___* The alcohol's mostly worn off, but still.
A friend-who-used-to-live-in-Japan of Kimberly's is in town, so I went with her to meet up with the friend and a few other people at a pub. The happy hour prices and portions were excellent! I got to speak Japanese with the girlfriend of another one of the former gang, who didn't really know anyone else either. The conversation was slightly hampered by the loud music, the alcohol in my system and my crappy Japanese, but I figure I shouldn't feel too bad about not knowing the Japanese word for "schizophrenia". XD Anyway, I had a nice time, so it was a good way to kick off the weekend.
Au programme pour demain:
- make a to-do list;
- try to accomplish some of the things on that to-do list;
- decide whether I'll go to a ballet class or be lazy and just go to the rehearsal;
- try not to suck at Japanese
And now, my memes! Five days in, and I'm keeping up. Good, good.
Day 05 - Which, if any, Japanese mannerisms or expressions have you adopted?
One thing I've noticed is that after my first year of living in Japan, I'd started turning my feet in more. Not that I walked or stood with them particularly turned out before, nor that I'm pigeon-toed now, but I do tend to take up less space. Again, not that I took up much space before, but there is a difference!
Another thing is that "un" of "I'm listening", that I do in English and in French now. When I'm talking to someone who doesn't live in Japan, I try to stop myself, but it's become natural. I can barely remember the days when I could be silent for more than five seconds while listening to someone and not think, "I must make a sound to reassure them that I am indeed paying attention to what they're saying!"
The bowing is another obvious one, as well as holding up a hand to wave away an apology. I also cock my head to the side more and exaggerate my facial expressions, at least compared to before.
I'm not sure if keeping left on the sidewalk counts in this, because it's not so much a mannerism as just the natural side for people to stay on if they don't want to block traffic.

Day 05 - Your definition of love
Love is between friends, between lovers, between siblings, between parents and children, between owners and pets, between teachers and students.
Love is laughing together, enjoying spending time together with no particular goal in mind. Love is listening, and knowing you'll be listened to in turn. Love is accepting and being accepted. Love is being able to pick up where you left off. Love is having silly in-jokes that no one else would probably bother to understand. Love is picturing a future together, and planning for it. Love is when the sight of someone puts a smile on your face. Love is sharing joy and sadness. Love is teaching each other all sorts of things. Love is going on adventures together. Love is fearing no ridicule. Love is seeing something that reminds you of someone and looking forward to telling them about it. Love is being incredibly thankful when things are good, and being devastated when they fall apart. Love is sharing memories. Love is keeping each other warm. Love is smiling in anticipation at the words "Remember that time when..." Love is hoping that things will never change, yet looking forward to what will happen next. Love is sharing the good things in life.
Love is not indifference.
