The year is coming to a close, and...
Dec. 28th, 2003 07:05 pmEverybody else is doing it, so
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
I got my driver's licence! I also moved out on my own and have been supporting myself since September.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't remember making any but I'm never really serious about them anyway.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
None that I know of.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
The U.K. (London for a day, that is), Greece, the U.S. and Mexico.
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
Ooh, tough one. How about an uncluttered apartment that stays that way? (It got better!)
7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I guess... the 31st of August, the day I officially moved into my apartment.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Moving out on my own! All right, all right, enough with that. Driving on Mexican highways without having an accident! I take back anything I ever said about lousy roads in Canada. And making myself some clothes!
9. What was your biggest failure?
Stopping Chinese class and not finishing NaNoWriMo. Lazy me.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had a stomach flu in March which was horrible. Do you know how sick I have to be to miss 3 days of work?!
Edit - I forgot about being ill in Veracruz, no doubt caused by some contaminated food that had me violently throwing up in the hotel room.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I bought so much stuff for my new place, but these days I think my sewing machine is the best.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
G's, for learning the Way of the Backpack. A-L's, for finishing her degree (almost). M-P's, for bearing the pain.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
That student I was bitching about. And let's not go near the topic of the government of the U.S.
14. Where did most of your money go?
A good chunk of it was spent on my trip to Greece, the other big chunk furnished my apartment and the rest went to rent, utilities, etc. and saving up for my next trip.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The Two Towers Extended Edition and The Return of the King, of course! As if you needed to ask.
16. What songs will always remind you of 2003?
Hmm... Bic Runga's Beautiful Collision, methinks.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
Happier, I think, but I was happy last year as well.
ii. thinner or fatter?
Fatter and my damn Vietnam clothes don't fit anymore! *cries*
iii. richer or poorer?
Richer, I think, despite the aforementioned expenses, but I'm being more careful about my spending.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Reading.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Bah, I'm not sure that there's any activity that sucks up that much of my time. Probably spending time with my computer when I should be doing other stuff.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Christmas Eve I had my family over for supper, then G and I spent the night at my parents' place. We opened up our presents Christmas morning and it was Christmas supper as usual with Andrea's family. Then on the 26th, G and I left for two days at an inn where we ate delicious food and had fun in the snow.
22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
I'm already too far gone to fall.
23. How many one night stands?
None.
24. What were your favourite TV programmes?
I don't watch any, aside from Law & Order when I remember to.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate people, I ignore them.
26. What was the best book you read?
*thinks* Harry Potter was the only one that kept me up late, but I guess reading Tolkien over again counts, doesn't it?
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Bic Runga and Emiliana Torrini.
28. What did you want and get?
The Two Towers Extended Edition. I even got Gollum! (Thanks, G!)
29. What did you want and not get?
Er... Better stamps in my passport.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
I'd feel like a heretic if I didn't say The Return of the King. Pirates of the Carribean was also lots of fun.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
For my 22nd birthday, I had pizza in a Ramada Inn motel outside Little Rock, Arkansas. Beat that for an exotic location!
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
I'm pretty satisfied as it is. I don't know, spending 6 instead of 3 weeks in Greece? Ah, G having a stereo in his car! ^_~
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
I think I'm trying to convince people I'm getting classier.
34. What kept you sane?
Having my own personal space and people who will listen to me complain.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I find it hard to fancy people I don't know personally.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The war in Iraq upset me the most, if that's what you mean.
37. Who did you miss?
I miss not living with my family anymore, but I think I like living on my own better. It was time.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
One of my students, who reminds me a lot of my brother, is a really great guy.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003.
God (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) helps those who help themselves?
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I've never been able to associate a simple lyric, but see #16.
