Curtains, please!
Jun. 13th, 2004 10:33 amI'm pleased to report that my recital went swimmingly and I'm very happy with how my solo turned out, in spite of the fact that I'd been dancing all day.
We had to be at the museum at 9, you see, to rehearse the afternoon show, which was for the little ones, though us big girls did a few of our dances as well. The girlies were hideously cute, as they always are, and there were the usual slip-ups, such as one girl's skirt falling off just as her dance was about to begin -- so she ran into the wings, found it couldn't be fixed, and rushed back out on stage to join the others.
It was weird, like living in a looping reality of rehearsal, show, rehearsal, show, dance, dance, dance. By the time we'd finished rehearsing the evening show, around 6 o'clock, some of us were seriously wondering how on earth our legs would find the energy to do it all over again. During that time, I managed to rest a bit; I couldn't sleep, with all the noise and activity around me, but I found a couch to lie down on and closed my eyes, quickly falling into that strange liminal state where the body is asleep but the mind isn't. I felt much better afterwards.
Now, I have to make a salad and head to rehearsal for my other show.
