This afternoon/evening was lots of fun and there were no tartlettes running around. Why is it that none of the older girls were dressed like that? I guess that by the time you're ten, you know enough to refuse to wear those ridiculous things.

We won silver! In both categories. And while it was a points-based system (your score determined your colour of medal, so everyone got one), I still think we did a rather good job of it. Unlike all the other girls who were there, we didn't spend endless hours practicing and our numbers weren't meant for a competition. I'm proud of us. But I just know that my legs will be utterly useless tomorrow, as my thighs are already sore without even my moving them to check.

This week on America's Next Top Model, the girls had to read from a teleprompter, and the viewing audience learned that none of them have ever heard of difficult words like magenta. "Chartreuse" I suppose isn't that common, but magenta? At any rate, none of them could pronounce them, nor pronounce the names of famous French designers. And these girls say they know fashion?

Speculation on the Television Without Pity boards is that the girls never learned phonics and so couldn't deal with a word they'd never learned in written form before. What I want to know is, who the hell thought that learning to read by recognizing words would be a better idea than learning them phonetically? It makes no sense. It means you have to memorize hundreds and hundreds of words, instead of learning 26 letters and the sounds they make alone or combined. And the possibilities aren't endless; each language has a finite set of sounds. Why not teach them Chinese characters instead? At least then the symbol would definitely bear no relation to the sound.
So, who wants to see the delectable Miss Jolie say "Now who's your daddy?" with me this summer? *melts all over the place*
