Jan. 3rd, 2007

Happy 2007, everyone! May the year be good to you, may you have love, laughter, and whatever else you could wish for.

As for myself, it sure started off with a bang and things are in motion. I'm still not quite sure where they'll lead, but it's a start and no matter how painful it is now, I know that it can only get better. I suppose I'll tell the long, sordid tale eventually, but not yet, it's still too raw.

Regarding my more mundane resolutions, I have kept on knitting (love those squares, they almost knit themselves!) but haven't sewn anything yet, despite the pair of pants I promised a friend I'd hem lying accusingly beside the sewing machine.

And for my movie log:

The Return of the King: Watched the second disk (I'd watched the first a few days before) with the cast commentary. Love the hobbits, they're all funny and well-spoken. Christopher Lee rocks.

Hercules Unchained: Courtesy of MST3K, much laughter involved, of course. Too bad there were no bonus shorts on this disk.

And in other news, I seem to have made some surprise resolutions when I wasn't looking:

In 2007, blodeuedd resolves to...
Volunteer to spend time with languages.
Pay for my ghost stories on time.
Give up sewing.
Drink four glasses of china every day.
Become a better bjork.
Buy new cats.
Get your own New Year's Resolutions:

But it's true, I really should try to be a better Bjork!

Finished:

The Singing Sword, by Jack Whyte. It's the sequel to The Skystone, which I read a while ago, and the second in the author's Arthurian series. The setting is Britain at the eve of the Roman Empire's rule, still a good number of years before Arthur is conceived and the title should tell you all you need to know about the main event that closes the book. It's an engaging read, though I found that at the beginning, it took me a few chapters before the writing stopped annoying me (a problem I'd had with the first book) but I chalk this up to the narrator's voice and not the author's, since it's told in the first person and I do believe that I'd probably react the same way if I met such a person in real life. They'd grate slightly at first, but I'd get past it after a while.

Hey, this isn't so bad! I suppose if I stick to this format, I can get it done. Maybe one day actually write true reviews? One can dream.

And now, in no particular order, a list of the books I read in 2006, at least the ones that I remember at the moment )

I'd do the same for the movies I've seen, but I've watched so many in the past few months that I'll leave that for another time.

ETA: a few books I'd forgotten I'd read:

The Devil Wears Prada (Lauren Weisberger)
Sideways (Rex Pickett)
Blood Ritual (Frances Gordon)
Reading Lolita In Tehran (Azar Nafisi)
